Archangels Fly on Sunday Morning
The Archangels squad out of Illinois was clicking on all cylinders on Sunday morning. They were running crisp action in the half court along with pushing it when opportunities presented themselves. Farmington small forward Corbin Rutledge continues to fly up the board among small colleges. Versatile combo forward with size was a major factor off the bounce, posting up, and running the floor for 15 points. His fellow combo forward Koen Derry of Galesburg also recorded 9 points in the win knocking in a mid-range jumper, sealing on the block, and using his quickness inside. Earl Dortch from Galesburg put his name on our radar with a strong performance. The 6’6” power forward has a thick body and has a good feel around the hoop. Alexandre Egipciaco is a tough combo guard that gets in the lane making play for himself and others. Eastern Schisler has a clean looking shooting stroke.
Upside Unsigned Seniors for Houston Raptors
A pair of unsigned seniors caught our attention for the Houston Raptors. Johnny Dewalt is a long and angular post that will need to get in a college weight program, but there is some intriguing tools with the way he protects the rim and runs the floor. On the perimeter Chris Morris is an athletic two guard that scores off the bounce getting to the cup and was active defensively. Small colleges and JUCO’s in Texas would be wise to take a look.
Gamepoint Inland Empire Shoots Lights Out in W over Michigan Goonies
The Gamepoint program out of California is one that always produces under the radar prospects. We liked three of their perimeter guys that could all absolutely stroke it from beyond the arc. Damian Ruiz led the way with his sharp shooting off the catch recording 11 points. Jacob Sanchez also drained three triples along with a put back for 11 points. Micaiah Hankins is a combo guard that can shoot it, but also mix it up inside. The Michigan Goonies were led by Jalen Jackson’s 14 points. The 5’5” dynamic guard is a crisp ball handler that has burst and finished with acrobatics in the lane. Robert Smith is a power wing that can shoot the rock and would be a nice small college option.
Another Complete Performance to Go 5-0 for Y&R/Authentic
Young & Reckless/Authentic Basketball went 5-0 on the weekend in Dallas once again proving they are one of the premier programs on the PHC and doing it in front of lots of college coaches. Tavari Johnson from Lyons Township is such a baller. Ball screen savant that runs the show with elite passing feel along with draining floaters along with pull up threes. Went for 17 points. He got help from his wings as OPRF shooting guard Justin Mullins excelled in transition with a monster dunk along with getting in the lane off the bounce and once again showcasing an improved three point shot for 13 points. Barrington combo forward Will Grudzinski has versatility to play the three or four along with stretching the defense and running hard for points. Flies in for put backs too recording 13 points in this one. TF South big man Xavier Lewis continues to play with a high energy level on both ends. Protected the rim and has a go to hook shot offensively. Next weekend in Indy at Prep Hoops 2K21 will be a huge test for this group.
Oklahoma Chaos and Fundamental U Grey Battle
This was a fun contest between a pair of squads loaded with small college and D2 talent. Oklahoma Chaos recorded the 75-65 win. Caylen Goff-Brown was excellent in the win. Combo guard with smooth handles getting in the lane. Drained 24 points including four triples. Jacobi Sebock has super bounce at the power forward spot. Explosive finisher around the hoop and shot blocking presence. KJ Jefferson is a power wing that did a great job getting downhill for 11 points. On the Fundamental U side of things Barrington point guard Daniel Hong was stellar with his pull up game. Drained crisp pull ups from mid-range all game long for 16 points. Stevenson guard Evan Porto dropped 20 points including hitting an array of threes while mixing in some slashes. Such a tough and vocal leader.
Colorado Titans Wing Duo Impresses along with HIT’s Ivan
We came away impressed with what the Colorado Titans did in their win over HIT. Kayan Hargrave lit up the nets from his two guard spot on Sunday for the Titans. Opened with a three and then went to work off the bounce with spinning layups and scores at the cup for 15 points. Andrew Scott is a sharp shooting wing that netted 15 points as well doing most of his damage from distance. Batavia power forward Ethan Ivan produces every time out and this was no exception. He went for 17 points in the loss hitting a three, but did most of his damage inside on quick drives and mobile finishes on the interior. Priority D2 guy.
Tulsa Hawks Score W over Team Teague in Finale
This was an interesting contest between two of the more talented PHC teams this spring and summer. Team Teague was without several of their key guys and the Tulsa Hawks star struggled with foul trouble in the first half. In the end though Joshua Udoumoh led the way notching a win for the Tulsa Hawks behind 20 points. He was outstanding as the strong bodied two guard drained four triples along with making plays in the lane to cap off a monster weekend. No doubt low-major player. Star 2023 Parker Friedrichsen was in foul trouble in the first half with four of them, but still managed 16 points draining some feathery jumpers in the second half off the bounce. Inside Kai Allen brought athleticism and Michael Woolridge was tough with his frame and efficiency. Team Teague was led by Leland Walker. The Hargrave star was a pesky defender on the perimeter along with scoring off the bounce, big dunks, and hitting open shots. Went for 21 points.
