I was able to see a bunch of them in action at Drive Nation in Irving, TX and will be highlighting standout prospects from the event throughout the week.
With that in mind, here are eight of the best scorers from the 17U division:
Aidan Kuhl | 2022 | 6’1” Combo Guard | PSB Denver 2022 | Rocky Mountain HS – I had the luxury of getting to see Kuhl’s 47-point performance from start to finish, and it was just as impressive as you would imagine. It was an efficient 47 too, with much of it coming within the flow of the offense. The lefty shot-maker created space with his dribble as well as with side-step and step-back moves, and was a marksman from behind the arc, ending the game with eight threes. He followed that up with a 29-point game the next day. Beyond his offensive production, Kuhl played with urgency and toughness while exhibiting a quick first step when getting downhill.
Ethan Ivan | 2022 | 6’7” Small Forward/Power Forward | H.I.T 2022 | Batavia HS – Ivan got to the rim at will in his opening game of the tournament, finishing with 29 points. He always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. The Batavia forward was outstanding as a slasher, slicing through the defense with ease when attacking the basket, while also showing good footwork and touch when operating on the block. He made timely cuts to the basket too. Additionally, he is a capable three-point shooter from the catch. Ivan didn’t do anything too fancy, but instead executed to near perfection.
Kaden Vande | 2022 | 6’7” Shooting Guard | Oklahoma Wolfpack 2022 | Tuttle HS – Vande possesses a long and wiry frame, and is extremely fluid for his size. The Tuttle guard is a three-level scorer who can hurt opposing defenses in a variety of ways. His shot-making from deep as well as from behind the arc was excellent. He showed good burst when blowing by defenders and splitting double teams too. His scoring versatility made some noise during the event, and his smooth style of play coupled with his stone-faced demeanor made him one of the most enjoyable to watch. Vande has all of the necessary tools to succeed at the next level.
Nahcs Wahwassuck | 2022 | 6’5” Shooting Guard | SSA Hoops Elite 2022 Black | Royal Valley HS – Wahwassuck scored 24 points and earned a mercy rule victory in his final outing of the event. He displayed three-level scoring ability, hitting stop-and-pop shots from mid-range, drilling a three from the catch, and finishing through contact at the basket. The Royal Valley guard showcased acrobatic finishing ability and always looked under control when playing downhill. Furthermore, he can operate and score comfortably on or away from the ball.
Buom Jock | 2022 | 6’5” Small Forward | D1MN Prospects – Culp | Mankato West HS – Jock was versatile at both ends of the floor. The two-way wing got it done for his squad on offense, doing a little bit of everything in an overall productive weekend for the Mankato West forward. He showed off a really nice mid-range game, hitting pull ups from the baseline in addition to some long twos from the top of the key. He was also solid from behind the arc and displayed great athleticism down low. There is a lot to like about his game.
Caylen Goff-Brown | 2022 | 6’2” Point Guard | Oklahoma Chaos Elite 2022 | Tulsa Central HS – Goff-Brown is yet another prospect who did damage off the drive, from mid-range, and beyond the three-point line. His body control when attacking the basket off the bounce was excellent, showing good agility and strength when surrounded by bodies in the paint. He converted threes from the catch in addition to some three-point plays the hard way with some crafty layups through contact. His 24-point performance on Sunday featured all of the attributes mentioned above and earned him top performer honors.
Eric Brown | 2022 | 6’3” Shooting Guard | Arnold Elite National 22/23 | Steele HS – Brown played with toughness and intensity at the PH Exclusive. He threw down some powerful dunks, finishing above the rim whenever he had the chance to do so. The Steele guard was a terrific shooter off the dribble too, showing deep range and the ability to hit step-back triples. He had a pair of noteworthy performances, putting up 30 and 20-point games on Saturday. Brown is tremendous athlete and a crafty shot-maker. That’s a winning combination in the modern era of basketball.
Kegan Bradford | 2022 | 6’1” Shooting Guard | AAO Flight 2022 Shannon | Westville HS – Bradford showed good quickness and agility when driving off the dribble. The 2022 guard was responsible for some crafty takes to the hoop, utilizing ball fakes and Euro step moves to get himself high-percentage looks from close-range. He converted in traffic from difficult angles and made some really tough shots. His weekend was highlighted by an 18-point game Saturday morning. Additionally, he is a serviceable shooter from three who was solid at getting open off the ball.
