We look at prospects from the event in our post event coverage today with Prep Hoops 2k21: Scotty B’s Top Illinois Performers!
Justin Page (Team Rose 16U)
The Peoria Manual star guard shined in a 24 point performance in Team Rose’s opener. Fluid athlete that played both on and off the ball. Good size at 6’4” that created his own shot from all over the floor. Got in the lane for runners, drained corner threes, and connected from mid-range. Going to see his a big jump in the next rankings.
Chikasi Ofoma Chikasi Ofoma 6'6" | C Curie | 2023 State IL (Team Rose 16U)
High-motor power forward from Simeon is so powerful inside. Uses his athleticism and strength to overwhelm opponents. Volume rebounder that snatches them in traffic and can step out on occasion to do some damage as a face up player. No doubt his bread and butter is playing with physicality around the hoop.
Mike Jones Mike Jones 6'7" | PF Chi-Prep | 2025 State #164 Nation IL (Team Rose 15U)
Jones is a prospect we had heard a lot about, but this was our first change to see him live. The Rockford Lutheran four man stands at about 6’6” with good length. Impacts the game in a major way on the defensive end swatting shots straight up, coming from the weakside, and LeBron swats. Also uses his length defensively getting deflections and steals. Offensively he was efficient scoring in the paint rim running and flashing skill on hook shots.
Xavier Amos Xavier Amos 6'7" | PF Whitney Young | 2022 State #233 Nation IL (Team Rose 17U)
Amos has steadily seen his stock rise over the last calendar year. He played well early in the event before setting out the second half of the weekend. Amos is a super active offensive rebounder that was explosive getting second chance opportunities on put backs. Finished dump off passes and ran the floor hard in transition. Emerged as a no doubt mid-major guy.
Davontae Hall (Team Rose 17U)
Hall is an explosive point guard from Hyde Park that picked up an offer from North Carolina A&T after a strong performance at 2k21. He plays with quickness in tight spaces. The lead guard got in creases and to the hoop consistently living at the rim. Also drained some deep pull ups. His growth as a passer showed as well which impressed us. Tough and athletic guard.
Tavari Johnson Tavari Johnson 6'0" | PG Lyons Township | 2022 State #171 Nation IL (Young & Reckless/Authentic Basketball 17U)
Johnson is making a case for himself to continue to move up the board in 2022. He is a PHI favorite with the way he operates in ball screen situations and his advanced IQ for the game. Makes some absolutely incredible passes. What impressed college coaches most was his ability to knock down shots at as high of a rate as he did off the bounce. Elite mid-major lead guard.
Justin Mullins Justin Mullins 6'4" | SF Oak Park-River Forest | 2022 State IL (Young & Reckless/Authentic Basketball 17U)
Mullins was excellent in their game against Midwest Basketball Club. He made go Sheppard shot for shot with him throughout the game. The utility wing brings two way ability and plus athleticism to the table. How well he knocked in shots was what made him a standout in Indy. Created his own shot along with knocking down spot up jumpers.
Damari Wheeler-Thomas Damari Wheeler-Thomas 6'0" | PG Larkin | 2022 State IL (Young & Reckless/Authentic Basketball 17U)
Wheeler-Thomas is a bucket getter at the point guard spot. The Larkin scoring guard wins with quickness off the dribble and loves to get in the lane where he converts with floaters, scoop shots, and other acrobatic finishes. Without question he is a low-major lead guard.
Ahmad Henderson Ahmad Henderson 5'10" | PG Brother Rice | 2023 State #291 Nation IL (Young & Reckless 16U)
Henderson is one of the better point guards in a strong PG class of 2023. He is smaller, but has major game. The Brother Rice star exploded for 23 points against Team Loaded Virginia on Saturday morning. Deep range on his three point shot that he pulls up from anywhere. Loves to get out in transition especially off his defense as he is a pesky defender.
Devon Ellis Devon Ellis 6'5" | SF Conant | 2021 State IL (Team NLP 17U)
Ellis is an unsigned senior wing that posted 31 points on Saturday in a game we caught. Powerfully built small forward attacks downhill and has a decent jump shot. Good motor and scorers mentality. D2s should try to jump in and steal him away from prep school which is what he plans on doing right now for next season.
David Douglas (Sport Prep Nothing But Athletics 17U)
Despite the loss Douglas was absolutely fantastic in their game Saturday against Champaign Heat. He dropped an easy 22 points nailing silky smooth shots from well beyond the three point arc along with several from mid-range. The Yorkville Christian 2023 combo guard is one to track moving forward.
Eli Hofmann Eli Hofmann 5'11" | PG Mercer County | 2022 State IL ( Archangels 17U)
Hofmann had a consistent weekend for the Archangels . Scoring point guard that is crafty around the hoop and can really shoot it from deep. Did just that throughout the event nailing shots at a consistent clip showing he is a priority small college guy.
DeAndre Craig DeAndre Craig 5'11" | PG Mt. Carmel | 2023 State IL (South Cook Jaguars 17U)
Craig is a 2023 point guard from Mt. Carmel playing up on the 17U level. The crafty and stocky guard excelled in transition where he scored quite a few of his 21 points at the rim. Hit a pair of threes and was active on the defensive end with his active hands and lateral movement.
Matthew Moore Matthew Moore 6'7" | PF Hillcrest | 2023 State IL (Chicago Lockdown 16U)
Moore is an athletic power forward that plays above the rim with explosive bounce. He finished at a better level than we had seen over the last month in his 15 point outing on Sunday. The physical tools are incredibly impressive and if the skill starts to come along watch out!
Jake Fiegen Jake Fiegen 6'3" | SG New Trier | 2023 State IL (Full Package 16U)
51 points. 13 threes. One game. Live period. Anything more need to be said? Nope. The elite 2023 sharp shooter did it on the biggest stage as the New Trier shooting guard drained triples like they were going out of style dropping the biggest performance of the weekend on Sunday. Such an elite shooter than understands how to get open and gets it off quick.
