In case you missed it, check out Ramsey’s Day One Notebook that covered all of Friday’s news and notes. Here are some additional weekend thoughts from specific games, a few more top performers, and some recruiting updates.
Saturday Morning Standouts
After a long Friday night of hoops (and taking some AAU/college coaches to Kilroy’s downtown) the alarm came a little early on Saturday morning. However, the grind never stops and we were back in the gym bright and early to watch a pair of Indiana/Illinois matchups. George Hill All Indy-Woo 2022 won in blowout fashion over Illinois Elite 2022 77-45 while Indiana Ice 2022 Silver Gauntlet fell to Illinois Blaze 2022 63-37.
For George Hill, I came away very impressed with 6’3″ combo guard Omari Ferguson. Ferguson is a lefty that showed off a nice shooting stroke in the win. He also has the size and strength to get to the rim off of the dribble and has proven to be a high percentage finisher inside. Definitely one to follow heading into the high school season.
Both Luke Carroll Luke Carroll 6'5" | SF Hamilton Heights | 2022 State IN (Hamilton Heights H.S. 2022) and Jaiden Malichi Jaiden Malichi 6'8" | C Cathedral | 2022 State IN (Cathedral H.S. 2022) played well for George Hill too. Carroll is a versatile 6’4″ forward with the ball skill to attack the basket off of the dribble. I love his strength as he gets downhill and attacks closeouts. Malichi is a 6’7″ 5-man that is bouncy around the basket and finishes at the rim. He moves fluidly around the court, plays hard, and is good as the roll man off of a ballscreen.
Jumping over to Indiana Ice Silver, their standout all weekend long was homeschool (Columbus) product Jack Farnsley. Pairing high-level catch-and-shoot ability with his lanky 6’7″ frame is very intriguing. He is probably flying a little under-the-radar without the high school success to backup what he has shown this summer, but as a “stretch-4” prospect he is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
Reggie Bass Reggie Bass 6'4" | SG Arsenal Tech | 2022 State #175 Nation IN ‘ Big Weekend
Reggie Bass Reggie Bass 6'4" | SG Arsenal Tech | 2022 State #175 Nation IN (Arsenal Tech H.S. 2022) started Prep Hoops 2K21 off with back-to-back 30-point performances that had everyone buzzing at the Indiana Convention Center. The Illinois commit backed it up with a couple of more high-scoring games over the course of the weekend for Team Teague 2022 Collins. Bass is extremely hard to stop in transition. He is explosive with the ball in his hands and has excellent vision in the open floor. When the lefty is hitting shots from beyond the arc, as he did this weekend, it makes him extremely difficult to stop on the offensive end of the floor.
Class of 2023 Stars
While focusing most of my time on Indiana’s Class of 2022, I was able to get my eyes on some of the state’s top 2023 talent on Saturday. Here are a few of the guys that stood out throughout the day.

Devon Woods

Pike | 2023

IN
(Pike H.S. 2023/Team Teague 2023 Collins)- Woods is a small, 5’10” point guard that is extremely quick with the ball in his hands. He played well off of the ballscreen showing that he could play with pace in the halfcourt. Creative finisher around the basket against size. Plays with good court vision as well.
- Anthony Ball Anthony Ball 6'6" | PF Decatur Central | 2023 State IN (Beech Grove H.S. 2023/Team Teague 2023 Collins)- The 6’5″ forward is super athletic with all the physical tools you would want, especially considering he is just headed into his junior season. Ball plays well around the basket and can rebound at a high level. Very nice prospect.
- Myles J. Colvin Myles J. Colvin 6'5" | SG Heritage Christian | 2023 State #51 Nation IN (Heritage Christian H.S. 2023/INB 2023 Elite)- The future Purdue Boilermaker shot it very well from beyond the arc over the weekend. He hit three threes in the first half of one game I got to see and then poured in 24 points including a hot shooting stretch in the second of another game against Team Loaded N.C. Colvin, a 6’5″ athletic wing, is really tough to stop when he is shooting it well.
- A.J. Lux A.J. Lux 6'3" | SG Crown Point | 2023 State IN (Crown Point H.S./Indiana Game 2023 Premier)- Lux is a big time shooter from three-point range. He has nice size at 6’4″ and has a quick releasing allowing him to make some tough, tightly contested shots. Lux is poised for a very good junior season at Crown Point coming out of the summer.
- Kamari Slaughter Kamari Slaughter 6'2" | SG Cathedral | 2023 State IN (Portage H.S./94 Feet Elite 2023)- Slaughter is a bulldog on both ends of the floor. He is a 6’4″ guard that gets downhill in a hurry off of the dribble and finishes around the basket. Quick and strong. College coaches will absolutely want to make the trip up to Portage to check him out during his junior season.
Strong Showing by Indiana Ice Gold
After coming over from the Adidas 3SSB Gold Gauntlet, Indiana Ice finished their July evaluation period at the Indiana Convention Center playing in Prep Hoops 2K21. The 2022 Gold group continued their strong summer with a 3-1 showing over the weekend; their lone loss coming Sunday afternoon to a very talented Bates Fundamentals 17u Red group.
Javan Buchanan (Lafayette Jefferson H.S. 2022) had a handful of Division II programs following him all weekend plus Eastern Illinois head coach Marty Simmons. Buchanan shot it well from beyond the arc while still showcasing his typical physicality and rebounding ability around the basket as a 6’6″ forward. Jonah Lucas Jonah Lucas 6'0" | PG Lafayette Harrison | 2022 State IN (Harrison H.S. 2022) was excellent as well showing off the ability to consistently score it from all three levels. Despite being just 5’10”, Lucas is extremely athletic and has good strength which allows him to play bigger than he is height wise. Harold Woods Harold Woods 6'3" | SF Hammond | 2021 State IN (Hammond H.S. 2021) showed that he is one of the best uncommitted prospects available. The 6’4″ guard shot it very well and is an athletic driver. He handles it well enough to be a secondary ball handler and can really score it. Whatever route he ends up taking this fall, Woods will be a very good college player.
The 2023 Indiana Ice team also went 3-1 led by Jordan Woods Jordan Woods 6'2" | PG Hammond Central | 2023 State IN (Hammond H.S. 2023) who was great all weekend. He is very tough in transition and is hard to stop from getting to the rim. Long and quick as a 6’3″ point guard.
