Continue ReadingWe are just a couple of days out from the final stop of the Prep Hoops Circuit prior to the region finals that will be held throughout the country the final weekend of July. The very best unaffiliated AAU programs, plus several Adidas 3SSB teams, will descend upon the Indianapolis Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis for Prep Hoops 2K21. Here is a list of five players that college coaches, and scouts like myself, will be anxious to watch in the final live period this coming weekend.
***This story has been updated since learning that Carmel H.S. 2022/Team Teague 2022 Turner big man Charlie Williams Charlie Williams 6'10" | PF Carmel | 2022 State #220 Nation IN suffered a summer-ending arm injury and therefore will not be playing this weekend.***
Caedmon Bontrager Caedmon Bontrager 6'8" | PF Leo | 2022 State IN (Elevation Prep 2022/Team Teague 2022 Turner): Bontrager is a really intriguing 4-man that plays above the rim. Team Teague hasn’t played locally yet in the live periods so this will be the first time for scouts in the Midwest to see Bontrager this month. He is a very efficient finisher around the basket, has nice post moves with good footwork on the block, and really rebounds at a high level. I suspect a strong showing in Indy this weekend will earn him a couple of offers as the live period comes to a close.
Ryan Conwell Ryan Conwell 6'2" | SG Pike | 2022 State #155 Nation IN (Pike H.S. 2022/EG10 2022): Just how much will Conwell blow up? That will be the question heading into this weekend for the left-handed 6’3″ guard. Conwell received his first Division I offer less than a month ago and now holds double-digit offers from the likes of Ball State, Southern Illinois, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, etc. There will be a few Power 5 conference coaches checking in on him this weekend. Another strong performance at Prep Hoops 2K21 could allow him to break into the high-major level.
Javan Buchanan (Lafayette Jefferson H.S. 2022/Indiana Ice 2022 Gold Gauntlet): After a successful run on the Adidas 3SSB Gold Gauntlet, Indiana Ice will take part in Prep Hoops 2K21 this weekend. A 6’7″ athletic forward, Buchanan is a super intriguing prospect that has played well against a high-level of competition throughout the evaluation period. Buchanan has moved back to Lafayette after a year out in Kansas and is making a name for himself among college coaches. It should be a big weekend for him.
Jordan Turner Jordan Turner 6'3" | PG Cardinal Ritter | 2022 State IN (Cardinal Ritter H.S. 2022/EG10 2022): Turner picked up his first Division I offer on Wednesday afternoon from Bethune Cookman and will have several more checking him out this weekend at the Indianapolis Convention Center. He is a playmaking point guard with a ton of talent off of the dribble getting to the basket. It is setting up to be a breakout weekend for the 6’2″ guard.
Darren Roach (Crown Point H.S. 2022/94 Feet Elite 2022): Roach is a super quick lefty guard that attacks the basket hard off of the dribble. He is explosive with his first step and loves to attacks closeouts to get to the rim where he uses elite athleticism to get up and finish around the rim. He has good length at 6’2″ with a bunch of raw potential that he continues to tap into. Roach is definitely one worth taking a long, hard look at this weekend in Indianapolis.
