Continue ReadingThe Philly High School Live sessions re one of the most anticipated events of the annual June recruiting period. As the basketball world comes out the Covid pandemic and returns to in-person recruiting, that anticipation was multiplied tenfold during June 2021.
Organized by John Mosco (Archbishop Wood Head Coach and Andre Noble (Imhotep Charter Head Coach) Philly HS Live (Session II) once again featured a field that was absolutely stacked with talented freshman and sophomore prospects
Below is a review of the Philly HS Live (Session II) event with a focus on southeastern Pennsylvania underclassmen prospects (2025s & 2024s) who impressed us.
2025s
Olin Chamberlain Olin Chamberlain 6'0" | PG St Joseph's Prep | 2025 State PA – 5’ 11″ / St. Joseph’s Prep / Guard: A long, ultra-quick prospect Chamberlain can shoot and score off the dribble. If puts the work in on his game and body, he could develop into a highly sought after stretch-4 prospect. The rising freshman scored 7 points against PIAA 6A champs Reading which featured several all-state level players defending on the perimeter. Look for Chamberlain on Team Jacko during the July grassroots circuit.
Zane Conlan – 6”4’ / Devon Prep / Wing: A long and muscular (180 lbs.) 2025 prospect, Conlan is extremely tough and not afraid to mix it up on the interior with older, bigger, more accomplished players. Conlan also displayed range on his jumper. He has great hands which allow him to smoothly execute catch and shoot jumpers or receive the ball in traffic and then finish strong. Word from the Devon Prep coaching staff is that Conlan could crack the starting lineup at some point during the 2021-22 season.
Amon Fowlkes – 5’8” / Collegium Charter / Combo Guard: Fowlkes is an excellent shooter with the court awareness to find the soft spots in the defense and quickly squeeze off a jumper. His quickness and dribbling skills enable Fowlkes to penetrate the lane, where his soft touch around the rim allows him convert via the floater or lay-in. His instincts for the game are advanced for a 2025 prospect. A superb on-ball defender, Fowlkes always guards the opposing team’s ball handler and pressures that player end-to-end. Fowlkes scored 8 points in Collegium’s game against West Philly.
Shareef Jackson Shareef Jackson 6'9" | C Roman Catholic | 2025 State #249 Nation PA – 6’6” / Roman Catholic / Wing: An extremely gifted player (No. 1 ranked in Pennsylvania’s Class of 2025) with a high basketball IQ, we have seen Jackson simply dominate games at the 15U level. At session II of Philly HS Live, Jackson (Son of former NBA player, now 76ers analyst Marc Jackson.) contributed nicely for Roman’s deep and talented varsity team. This past weekend he played the hard-nosed, hustling glue guy role that Roman needs from him right now. But make no mistake, Jackson is oozing with offensive talent and the flashes of scoring ability he showed were impressive. Jackson owns polished skills for a 2025 forward and can score with both hands around the basket. Additionally, his footwork and positioning skills are excellent for such a young prospect. Jackson recorded 6 points and 6 rebounds vs Maret School (Wash., DC).
2024s
Nick Coval Nick Coval 6'1" | CG Parkland | 2024 State PA – 6’2’’ / Parkland / Combo Guard: We have written about Coval numerous tome this spring/summer and the versatile and athletic guard continued to impress this past weekend. In Parkland’s win over Chester (PA), Coval posted 20 points and made it look effortless. He is one of the top shooters (3-point; mid-range and/or floaters) in Pennsylvania’s Class of 2024. To go along with his pure shooting stroke, Coval exhibited solid dribbling skills and a high basketball IQ. He has the unique ability to makes other players around him better.
Jacob Cummiskey – 6’3’’ / Central Bucks East / Combo Guard: A tall and wiry lefty, Cummiskey appears to be a natural floor general, but he can operate as a shooting guard if needed. Cummiskey impressed coaches and scouts with his well-rounded skill set and high basketball IQ. He plays bigger than his listed height and rebounds well for a guard. Cummiskey scored 15 points vs. Executive Education Charter and it looked easy for him.
Tristen Guillouette – 6”8’ / St. Joseph’s Prep / Power Forward: The former Life Center Academy (NJ) varsity reserve proved he is ready for a much bigger role at his new school. Guillouette displayed solid footwork and an ability to finish at the rim with either hand. He is a thick bodied interior player who with some work in the weight room, could be a real force down low. His highlight of the weekend was a 26 points and 11 boards double-double (4 blocks as well) vs. PIAA 6A state champ Reading.
Moses Hipps Moses Hipps 6'4" | SG AZ Compass Prep | 2024 State AZ – 6’1’’ / Archbishop Carroll / Combo Guard: From April through the Philly HS Live (Session II), Hipps has been one of the best 2024 prospects in the entire state. A 3-point shooter with unlimited range, Hipps can knock down jumpers in transition or in the half-court. Complimenting Hipps’ outside shooting is his electric ball handling skills and ability to lead the transition game. He posted 17 points against a very good Executive Education Charter (PA) team and then 29 (6 threes) vs. Miami Southridge (FL). Both games were wins for Carroll.
Khaafiq Myers Khaafiq Myers 5'10" | PG Neumann-Goretti | 2024 State PA – 5’11’’ / Neumann-Goretti / Combo Guard: Myers is a crafty guard who excelled at scoring off the dribble drive and sprinkled in the occasional mid-range jumper. He tallied 14 points in NG’s win over Windermere Prep (FL), but it was Myers’ efforts at the other end of the floor that really impressed us. Myers’ quickness and exceptional lateral movement made him a menace level on-ball defender and produced a slew of steals / deflections. His intensity at the defensive end really stands out. He also appears to own an excellent grasp of team defense concepts.
Thomas Sorber– 6’9” / Archbishop Ryan / Power Forward: A Top 100 ranked prospect in New Jersey’s Class of 2024, Sorber recently transferred to 5A powerhouse Archbishop Ryan. He wasted no time going to work for Ryan at this event. In fact one could argue that Sorber was the “big” who stock rose the most over this event as he was simply unstoppable at times. Sorber (formerly of Trenton Catholic Academy in NJ) catches everything that is thrown to him. Once he has received the rock, Sorber can absorb contact and finish at the rim. Sorber establishes position on the low blocks well and can then score with his back to the basket. He also displayed has range on his jumper out to 3-point line. At the other end of the floor, Sorber contests shots well (4 blocks in one game this weekend). At the Philly HS Live (Session II), Sorber registered two double-doubles — 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds vs. Downingtown West (PA) as well as 18 & 10 against Bergen Catholic (NJ).
