Some talented squads from around the midwest descended upon the UBT Sports Complex for a weekend of hoops. Here are some 16U prospects whose performances stood out during Sunday’s action at the Gateway to the West Classic in Omaha.
Keavian Hayes Keavian Hayes 6'2" | SG Sioux City West | 2023 State IA – Arena Basketball Club 2023
Hayes once again shined for Arena Basketball Club on Sunday, putting on an absolute show against a talented SD Network Squad in their final game of the weekend. Hayes was scoring at all 3 levels, and playing hard throughout the entirety of the contest. A super bouncy guard who isn’t afraid to show some emotion, Hayes had a bevy of tough finishes at the rim through contact, as well as some mid-range makes and a couple of made 3’s. He finished with 19 points against SD Network and was far and away not only one of the best players I saw this weekend, but is one of the better guards I have watched play in person this summer.
Aiden Johnson – North Star Titans
The 6’4 Johnson had a huge weekend for North Star Titans during their stay in Omaha. He logged a double-double in every game single game he played this weekend. One of the strongest rebounders I saw this weekend, Johson battles inside with authority and also has a smooth touch from the mid-range and around the rim. He also defended really well.
Mandella Muhamed – South Dakota Network 2023 Kasib
Arena Basketball Club vs. SD Network featured a bevy of talented players and was the game that I thoroughly enjoyed watching the most this weekend. SD Network point guard Mandella Muhamed had himself a game in that matchup. Muhamed tallied 17 points on the contest while scoring at all 3 levels. He also distributed the ball well and displayed the tools of a more than capable floor general.
Zach Lutmer Zach Lutmer 6'1" | PG Central Lyon | 2023 State IA – Arena Basketball Club 2023.
The coaches at Arena Basketball Club told me that both Lutmer and Keavian Hayes Keavian Hayes 6'2" | SG Sioux City West | 2023 State IA both could probably play division one football, well both of them saved their best performances for the last game of the weekend on Sunday afternoon. Lutmer was the floor general for Arena, and the 6’1 guard played tough as nails. Finished at the rim through contact and converting free throws when drawing fouls. Lutmer tallied 24 points for Arena in their win over SD Network and showed me that he is definietely more than just a football player.
