Some talented squads from around the midwest descended upon the UBT Sports Complex for a weekend of hoops. Here are Part #2 of the 16U prospects who stood out to me in my day of taking in the action on Saturday in Omaha.
Austin Trotter – Arena Basketball Club 2023
The lone Nebraskan on a very talented Arena Basketball Club roster, Trotter’s game impressed me on Saturday and he’ll certainly have my attention this coming year at Millard South. Trotter was a pest on the defensive end for Arena playing some tenacious defense. Trotter made the right cuts away from the ball and displayed his capable slashing ability with the ball. Trotter has solid athleticism for a 6’3 guard and could be an under-the-radar name for me to keep tabs on here in Nebraska.
Nathan Fenske – Southwest Minnesota Stars 2023
Fenske was one of the best guards I saw put his skills on display on Saturday. The 6’2 point guard was making plays on both ends of the floor throughout the day for Southwest Minnesota Stars. Fenske was all over the court, jumping into opposing passing lanes for steals, finding open teammates inside and outside, or showing off some crafty finishes at the rim. Fenske did everything you’d hope to see your point guard do.
Zander Benz – South Dakota Network 2023 Kasib
With some great length at 6’6 and a quick smooth release, Benz immediately caught my eye watching South Dakota Network. Benz is incredibly vocal on both ends of the floor and can get going in a hurry from the field. He used his length to his advantage on the defensive end as well. Benz has all of the tools coaches at the next level will be looking for in a wing player.
Zach Anderson – MN Rise 2023
Another 6’6 wing with plenty of promising tools in his bag, MN Rise’s Zach Anderson made just about everything he did look smooth throughout the day on Saturday. He’s got a good-looking jump-shot and was probably one of, if not the strongest rebounder I saw throughout the day following 16U action.
AJ Akot- Sacred Hoops Dwight 2023
Akot is a super athletic 6’4 guard who it seemed like was guarding every single position on the floor when seeing action for his Sacred Hoops squad. Akot has plenty of raw potential, but there’s a lot to like with his game. He has a good handle, crafty finishing ability, and the length to become a pest on the defensive end. He also showed an ability to grab rebounds with authority and run the break afterward. Akot has a chance to be a special player.
