Here we’ll take a look at a few of the top Floor Generals that stood out and had a sensational weekend.
Jalen Mins | 1UP | C/o 2022 | Los Angeles, CA
Jalen Mins showed everything you could want in a point guard, very poise, under control, with a high basketball IQ, and a good understanding of how to control the tempo and pace of play. Mins played smart basketball, picked his spots well, and didn’t take a single bad or forced shot, he simply let the game come to him. Jalen’s natural instincts and skills consistently allowed him to put points on the board in every way imaginable, always getting the looks he wanted and he did it all without dominating the ball or over dribbling. Mins loved to put pressure on the rim, he attacked with a fearless nature looking to initiate contact which he was never phased by in the slightest, it seemed like he converted every tough shot and layup opportunity whether the contact was there or not. This young man played at a much faster speed than all the other guys on the court, Mins showed the ability to shake up a defense by himself and get to any spot on the floor with his shifty combo dribble moves.
Gerron Trapps | BBSS National | C/o 2023 | Chicago, IL
Illinois prospect Gerron Trapps, put his next-level footwork and savviness on full display as he maneuvered through traffic and lanes. Good one-on-one skills, Trapps’s burst of quickness out of his dribble seemed to always lead him underneath the basket where he proved to be a strong finisher with a nice layup package and an accurate passer that could kick the ball out to the open man even when crowded. Gerrron Trapps’ impressive intangibles and all-around skillset are going to propel him greatly throughout the next couple of years.
T’Johnn Brown | Max Levels Elite | C/o 2023 | Garland, TX
Every time T’Johnn Brown steps on the floor he proves why he’s known as one of the most athletic guards in his class with the leaping, speed, quickness, strength, and heart to compete with anyone and this weekend was no different. Brown played at high speed, especially in the open court where he was practically a one-man fast break pushing the ball up the floor in a blink of an eye. T’Johnn Brown didn’t just finish plays in transition he also started them by forcing turnovers in more ways than one. He proved to be a very defensive-minded point guard with a gritty presence that can got into the heads of his opponents. His intensity and peskiness stood out in a major way, ultra-competitive, and always hungry for the ball.
Max Howery | P.L.U.T.O. Prospects | C/o 2024 | Colorado Springs, CO
Max Howery started his weekend off with an outstanding 22 point performance with 14 points coming in the second half against the Razorbacks on day one. This savvy point guard had phenomenal control of the pace of play and the offensive flow. Howery constantly looked to set his teammates up for easy shots and the moment he saw an open window he made smart pinpoint passes, displaying a special ability to hit the cutter from any spot on the floor. His great ball skills as well as his anticipation for the play or how the defense would react allowed Max Howery to handle pressure exceptionally well.
Don Williams Jr. | Texas Tar Heels 2024 | C/o 2025 | Dallas, TX
D.J. Williams was the definition of Floor General out there, displaying great communication skills along with a good understanding of the game and what should be transpiring at all times on the floor. He orchestrated the offense, kept his teammates involved, scored within the flow of things, controlled the pace, and set the tone both offensively and defensively. The speedy Texas Tar Heels guard often caught fire after seeing the ball go through the net a couple of times, leading him to score in bunches from all three levels. Williams made contested layups, scored through contact, knocked down floaters in the mid-range, and nailed deep three-pointers off the dribble as well as off the catch. This lead guard showed good confidence in his jumpshot, he was never afraid to take a shot, he wanted the rock whenever a bucket was needed the most, even with the game on the line. On the other side of the ball, D.J.’s instincts and anticipation were outstanding, a true lockdown defensive talent that takes pride in slowing down or stopping the best ball-handler and scorer on the floor. Remember the name Don Williams Jr., he can fill up a stat sheet and lead his team in scoring, assist, and steals on any given night.
