I was lucky enough to make the trip to Adrian to watch some members of the Midwest Stampede workout last night. The Midwest Stampede have played on the Prep Hoops Circuit this spring and summer.
The practice started with a focus on the defensive end. Every player worked hard on their defensive footwork and positioning. The players then moved on to work on boxing out. This was a physical part of practice where the athletes really got after it on the glass. The group of players then focused on being aggressive with the ball, taking it to the rim, and finishing at the bucket.
Let’s take a look at some impressions that the Midwest Stampede players left at the workout last night.
Holden Davies (2023, G, Adrian)
Davies is a hustle player through and through. He can be a real difference maker on the defensive end. Davies has the ability to buckle down and lock an opponent up on the perimeter with his footwork alone.
Brennan McKenzie Brennan McKenzie 6'0" | PG Adrian | 2023 FL (2023, G, Adrian)
McKenzie played extremely disciplined basketball throughout the entire practice. He did all the little things that are indicators of success when it comes to technique. McKenzie does a nice job keeping the game in front of him and attacking with his head up.
Carson Pixley (2023, F, Blissfield)
Prixley is a really raw player, but flashed some real potential last night. He looks like a 4 that will roam the paint. I really liked his natural feel for a spin move toward the lane when he has the ball with his back to the basket in the paint.
Micah Saunders Micah Saunders 6'0" | SG Adrian | 2023 FL (2023, G, Adrian)
Saunders has tremendous explosiveness on both ends of the floor. He’s not afraid to take the ball on a straight line to the rim and finish through contact. Saunders can make a big difference maker as an energy player that gets back on D and stops transition buckets for his opponent.
Grant Stockford Grant Stockford 6'2" | SF Clinton | 2023 State MI (2023, F, Clinton)
Stockford has all the tools. His strength in his legs and his ability to get off the ground are instant advantages. When working on attacking the rim, he was at his best when he powered himself all the way to the bucket and used his athleticism and body control to finish with a high percentage look.
