I was able to attend the event on July 10 and here’s a quick look at some additional top CA talent that was in the building.
1. Caden Harris – Summit 2022
Harris was one of the premiere shooters I saw at the event. He’s a knockdown shooter from long range. He steps into his shot well and has a really quick release. Good catch and shoot player who moves well without the ball to get himself open. Near automatic if open. Aside from his shooting, he can handle the ball in transition and is a very unselfish player. He makes the right passes and is always looking for teammates. Good in the high post with good vision.
2. Alton Dubois – Balboa 2021
Dubois was one of the top defensive players that I saw. Slides his feet well and gets in front of the ball-handler. He has quick feet and good hands that force turnovers. Offensively, he has a pretty good slashing game. He can attack off the dribble and he can get into the lane. He has good body control and can draw contact to get himself to the free throw line. Good catch and shoot three-point shooter. He can pull-up off the dribble from midrange as well.
3. Snookey Wigington Snookey Wigington 5'10" | CG Ribet Academy | 2020 State CA-S – IMG Academy 2022
Wigington will be headed to IMG for a post-grad year, but he’d been playing at Ribet Academy. He was one of the top playmakers that I saw, a real point guard and floor leader. He’s very crafty and can find all the seams in the defense. He’s very quick and gets into the lane easily. He has amazing court vision and constantly finds open teammates. Drive and dish and drive and kick. Despite his size, he is a good finisher at the rim over bigger defenders. Good three-point shooter.
4. Dennis Evans Dennis Evans 6'10" | C Riverside Hillcrest | 2023 CA-S – Hillcrest 2023
Evans is a player I saw back during the Hoops 2.0 Showcase events in the winter and early spring and he was very raw then but had clear talent. He’s definitely improved since then. His defensive instincts are something that can’t be taught. He’s a rim protector and challenges everything that comes into the paint. Active on the glass. He has good hands and can finish lobs. He’s also developing a soft little hook shot. Definitely has high upside as a big man on both ends.
