In the second game, Grant cruised past South Medford to get to the finals. Here’s a look a the top performers:
Adrian Mosley Adrian Mosley 6'2" | SF West Linn | 2023 State #269 Nation OR (2023 Grant)
Despite suffering from a bruised sternum, Mosley still stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocked shots. He converted some tough drives to the hoop and also knocked down some mid-range pull-ups. Defensively he came over from the weak side for his rejections and he showed some willingness to mix it up with his assignment. The highlight of his night was on a play that didn’t count – a left-handed putback slam of a miss after the foul was already called.
Max Von Arx Max Von Arx 6'5" | PF Grant | 2022 State OR (2022 Grant)
Oregon Madness has been von Arx’s personal playground as he’s put up some of the best scoring performances of the year in these games. Against South Medford, the 6-foot-5 forward was extremely effective down low, using his long reach to scoop over and around defenders for baskets. He attacked off the bounce when facing the hoop and was quick to grab rebounds of his own misses.
Luke Winkler Luke Winkler 5'10" | CG Grant | 2021 State OR (2021 Grant)
Winkler didn’t score a ton of points – but was extremely effective in other areas of the game. Playing like a true point guard, the 5-foot-11 graduate effectively triggered the offensive attack and more often than not was able to beat his man off the dribble into the lane. He was active on the boards and on defense, and finished with 4 assists, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Jackson Weiland (2024 South Medford)
We’ve seen the future of Southern Oregon basketball and his name is Jackson Weiland. The 5-foot-11 guard is a lights out shooter from deep but what impressed us the most was his poise and maturity beyond his years on the floor. Weiland didn’t force the action but rather took what was given to him and was always looking to make the right play at the right time. He finished with a team-high 13 points while also tallying a few rebounds and assists.
Devon Malcolm Devon Malcolm 6'4" | SF South Medford | 2022 State OR (2022 South Medford)
It wasn’t a big scoring night at all for Malcolm as his perimeter shot wasn’t falling and he didn’t really get many touches when posting up low. But where the 6-foot-4 athlete made his mark was on the boards – he pulled down at least 10 – and on defense. He took on the challenge of guarding Mosley and for the most part did a good job of keeping him out of the lane. And Malcolm did end up getting one opportunity for a throw down, converting a steal into a wide open thunder jam.
