Indy Heat back to full health and looks good
The most talented grassroots team in Indiana, Indy Heat has struggled with not having a full roster most of the summer. On day one, they looked every bit of a top notch program as they defeated BABC, 83-69. Purdue commit Fletcher Loyer Fletcher Loyer 6'4" | SG Homestead | 2022 State #108 Nation IN continued his hot summer, going for 27 points while draining five 3’s. He showed off his terrific shooting stroke all game long and looked extremely comfortable attacking the basket as well. He was helped by Louisville commit D’Ante Davis D’Ante Davis 6'7" | SF Warren Central | 2022 State #132 Nation IN who finished with 18 points, six rebounds and seven assists. He showed his versatility driving on bigger defenders while using his length and frame on smaller defenders in the paint. Indiana commit Chris Gunn Chris Gunn 6'5" | SG Lawrence North | 2022 State #114 Nation IN chipped in 10 points. He really set the tone to begin the game, starting 4-of-4 right out of the gate. He looked for his shot and was extremely aggressive on both ends of the floor. Tayshawn Comer Tayshawn Comer 6'0" | PG Cathedral | 2022 State #226 Nation IN continues to be an extremely underrated part of this roster, doing everything a great point guard needs to do – distribute the ball to the shooters and players surrounding him and play hard-nosed defense.
Kyle Filipowski Kyle Filipowski 6'9" | PF Wilbrham & Monson | 2022 State #13 Nation NLG showcased terrific skillset
The NY Rens forward had one of the best performances of the day. He led his squad to a big 89-64 win over Team Takeover. He had 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting, 11 rebounds and eight assists. At 6-foot-10, he showed his ability to take defenders off of the dribble while being fully under control. There were multiple times where he led the break and went coast-to-coast to finish at the rim. He scored at the low post, high post and off of rebound putbacks. Despite only taking one three, he is a tremendous pick and pop/roll player due to his ability to hit from the outside. With his skill, he can adjust on the fly in the paint as well. Filipowski has tremendous vision for his size and would often times get the offense in their sets at the top of the key.
Masai Troutman Masai Troutman 6'5" | SF St. Andrew's | 2022 State MD shines despite loss
Playing alongside Syracuse commit Justin Taylor, Troutman was the best player on the floor for Team Takeover. He finished with 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting and 9-of-11 from the line. He isn’t super quick but knows how to use his body to put himself in the right position on his drives. He often times would get defenders on his hip and draw the foul at the rim. He has really good length and is a solid athlete. He isn’t super quick, but his ability to pick out angles on drives helps that. Definitely more of a 15-foot and in type shooter than from the perimeter, but mostly slashing makes up his game. His body control allows him to finish at the rim through contact. Defensively, he had good pressure and uses his frame to be able to guard positions 1-3.
Meanstreets uses huge second-half surge to finish major comeback win
Down 12 after the first quarter and by as many as 19 in the game, Meanstreets turned it on and took down MOKAN Elite 78-64. Xavier commit Kam Craft Kam Craft 6'5" | SF TSF | 2022 State #54 Nation GA was terrific all game, scoring a game-high 25 points. Despite shooting just 3-of-11 on 3’s, he found ways to impact the game. He displayed a great ability to score at every level and did so in many ways. He used his good frame to get into the lane and finish using floaters, through contact and at the rim. He is a very good athlete who showed a good ability to finish around length at the rim too. Nick Martinelli Nick Martinelli 6'6" | SF Glenbrook South | 2022 State #235 Nation IL added 18 points for Meanstreets. He showed a great ability to score on the inside through contact. He moves great without the ball and always makes winning plays. Meanstreets’ top duo of AJ Casey AJ Casey 6'8" | PF Whitney Young | 2022 State #55 Nation IL (4 points) and Jalen Washington Jalen Washington 6'10" | PF Gary Westside | 2022 State #32 Nation IN (4 points) were relatively ineffective going up against MOKAN Elite big Tarris Reed Jr Tarris Reed Jr 6'10" | PF Link Academy | 2022 State #43 Nation MO (21 points).
