However, the 16u and 15u squads are both 0-2. Since there are no fans allowed at this years event (though there is a free live stream being provided) here is what you may have missed over the last 36 hours or so at the Peach Jam.
Indy Heat EYBL
The rising seniors are off to a great start as they cruised past BABC Tuesday morning before knocking off Seattle Rotary Wednesday afternoon to begin the Peach Jam with a 2-0 record.
Future Purdue Boilermaker Fletcher Loyer Fletcher Loyer 6'4" | SG Homestead | 2022 State #108 Nation IN (Homestead H.S. 2022) was excellent in Tuesday’s victory scoring a game-high 27 points including 5/9 shooting from three-point range. A pair of triples at the end of the first quarter helped Indy Heat build a double-digit advantage and they never really looked back from there. BABC made one late run in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough as Coach Ryan Owens and the Indy Heat won the opening game 83-69.
Louisville recruit D’Ante Davis D’Ante Davis 6'7" | SF Warren Central | 2022 State #132 Nation IN (Warren Central H.S. 2022) played a big role in the victory as well scoring 18 points to go along with 6 rebounds and a game-high 7 assists. Davis was extremely efficient going 8/11 from the field. The long, athletic slasher made his living in transition and was impossible to stop at the rim.
Indiana bound C.J. Gunn chipped in 10 points while highly sought after point guard Tayshawn Comer Tayshawn Comer 6'0" | PG Cathedral | 2022 State #226 Nation IN (Cathedral H.S. 2022) scored 8 points along with 4 assists to just 1 turnover.
Indy Heat’s hot shooting from Tuesday did not carry over to Wednesday afternoon’s action. They shot only 2/7 from beyond the arc and were just 41.3% from the field after shooting 53.4% the previous day.
It was more of the same from Loyer though as the 2022 Mr. Basketball candidate poured in 22 points on just 12 shots to lead the way for Indy Heat.
Seattle Rotary took a two-point lead into the halftime break but couldn’t hold on as Indy Heat lived at the free throw line in the second half to come away with a hard fought 66-58 win.
Indy Heat EYBL will look to move to 3-0 at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time Thursday against Team Strive for Greatness.
Indy Heat 16u
It was a heartbreaking loss for the 16u squad on Tuesday afternoon.
After leading the vast majority of the game, Indy Heat made a couple of late critical mistakes that allowed Team Takeover to live up to their name and takeover the lead. Three free throws after being fouled on a three-point attempt, followed by a made three from sharp-shooting Jermaine Coleman Jermaine Coleman 6'7" | SF Park Tudor | 2023 State IN (Park Tudor H.S. 2023) briefly recaptured the lead in the waning minutes, but Team Takeover would eventually force overtime.
In the end, victory just wasn’t in the cards for the Indy Heat 16u despite shooting 50% from the field, 46.2% from deep, and an extremely impressive 20/22 from the free throw line. Team Takeover would come away with a 70-68 overtime win.
Ashton Williamson Ashton Williamson 6'2" | PG Gary 21st Century | 2023 State #287 Nation IN (Gary 21st Century H.S. 2023) was excellent off of the dribble all game long scoring 12 points and dishing out 3 assists while versatile wing Cooper Farrall Cooper Farrall 6'5" | SF Culver Academy | 2023 State IN (Culver Academy 2023) scored 13 points and pulled down 5 rebounds.
After the tough loss, things did not go well for Indy Heat 16u on Wednesday morning. They fell behind to the Nightrydas 17-0 and 19-1 early on and could just never get themselves back in the game. The Nightrydas would cruise on to a 74-39 victory.
As a team, Indy Heat 16u shot 26.4% from the field and 3/18 from three-point range.
Jamie Hodges (Elevation Prep 2023) was a bright spot in the loss going a perfect 3/3 from the floor and 3/3 from the foul line to lead the team with 9 points.
Indy Heat 16u is back in action Thursday evening at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time against the NY Rens.
Indy Heat 15u
It has been a tough trip to the Peach Jam so far for the 15u group. Despite a ton of talent on their roster, Indy Heat 15u has run into a buzzsaw against Team Durant and Houston Hoops.
Team Durant was incredibly long and athletic which led to a bunch of turnovers for the Indy Heat. The group admirably kept fighting led by the backcourt duo of Tae Johnson (Fort Wayne North Side H.S. 2024) and Lyna Brooks Lyna Brooks 6'3" | CG Saginaw Arthur Hill | 2024 State MI (Franklin Central H.S. 2024), but it was never enough to truly get back in the game.
Team Durant would pick up the win, 73-59.
On Wednesday morning unfortunately it was more of the same. Indy Heat 15u fell behind early due to poor shooting and Houston Hoops was just too much to handle in transition.
Ajani Washington Ajani Washington 6'2" | SG New Haven | 2024 State IN (Concordia Lutheran H.S. 2024) and Daniel Garza Daniel Garza 6'5" | PF Bosco Institute | 2024 IN (Bishop Noll Institute 2024) both had good stretches for Indy Heat 15u, but they would go on to lose 62-37.
They will look to bounce back from their tough 0-2 start on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time against AOT.
