Hosted by recruiting legend Gary Charles, the event runs from July 21st until July 28th and features teams from all over the country. Pool play got started on Thursday, featuring several high-level prospects. In this article, we take a look at some of the standouts from pool play action.
Cody Williams Cody Williams 6'8" | SF Perry | 2023 State #25 Nation AZ 6’8 SF Arizona Firestorm 2023 (featured image) – A Paul George clone. Williams played primarily with the ball in his hands in the game I saw. The long wing is a terror off the bounce, with the ability to defeat opponents off the bounce and finish at the rim.
Travis Roberts Travis Roberts 6'5" | SG Bishop Walsh | 2022 State MD 6’7 SF Prospects U 2022 – Roberts may have had the dunk of the event, as he won when a defender decided to challenge him at the rim. In addition to his R&J ability, Roberts showed impressive shooting ability, specifically when working his mid-range pull-up game. The high motor wing currently has offers from Georgetown, Fresno, and San Diego St.
Caleb Shaw Caleb Shaw 6'3" | CG Phhprep | 2022 State AZ 6’4 SG D1 New Mexico 2022 – After speaking with Shaw, I learned that he missed all of last season with an injury. That makes sense because that’s the only way the scoring wing would go unnoticed. Shaw possesses a smooth offensive game, displaying the ability to hit open shots or score around the rim off the bounce. Shaw is a high valued D2 prospect that has garnered interest from Colorado Christian, Point Loma, and Tribeca.
Angel Johnson 6’0 PG Scholar Athletes 2022 – Johnson is a talented game manager type PG, that seemed to make the correct decision on every possession. He has a good frame and used it to play solid defense. He also took advantage of every opportunity he had, by knocking down open shots or finishing drives to the paint.
Kamryn Thomas 6’8 PF Team RWA 2022 – Thomas is a face-up 4 that was a match-up nightmare. He has the size and athleticism to play down low, but where he was a terror was when he could step out to the perimeter and attack bigs He showed he could get to the rim off one or two dribbles, and stretched the floor out to about 18. He will be headed to Dream City Christian for his senior season.
