With AAU basketball in full swing this month a number of key guys will be missing but teams are still playing and giving some of their younger players an opportunity for experience.
We had the opportunity to drop by a few games this first week including the Tigard Tournament, of which the varsity and junior varsity brackets were captured by Beaverton. Here are some of the top performers we saw on the week.
Jared Sucher Jared Sucher 6'4" | SG Sherwood | 2023 State OR (2023 Sherwood)
Due to his commitments with International Elite, Sucher has only played in one summer league game so far for Sherwood but it was a good one against Lake Oswego, as he piled up 25 points. He showed the ability to score at all three levels and looked very smooth on his pull-up jumper.
Marcus Lee Marcus Lee 5'10" | PG Lake Oswego | 2022 State OR (2022 Lake Oswego)
Lee is a certified bucket getter and did just that in all three Lake Oswego games we saw on the week. The 5-foot-10 guard was deadly from long range – money when he has his feet set and an open look – but was also strong on his drives and converting around the hoop.
Brady Rice Brady Rice 6'2" | SG Beaverton | 2023 State OR (2023 Beaverton)
We continue to be impressed with how Rice lets the game come to him. The 6-foot-1 rising junior knocked down open threes, got loose in transition for some buckets, and made the extra pass to keep the offense moving. He finished the Tigard Tournament semifinal win with a very efficient yet game-high 13 points.
Trevon Hamilton Trevon Hamilton 6'2" | PG Beaverton | 2022 State OR (2022 Beaverton)
The more you watch Hamilton the more you appreciate the special gift he has for passing. The 6-foot-2 rising senior didn’t look for his shot but consistently found open teammates for scores with dimes that had you thinking how did he see that? Defensively he was a terror in the passing lanes as well.
Carter Fortune (2024 Southridge)
Fortune’s game is all about getting to the basket and he does it well. In the Tigard Tournament semifinal win, he was able to attack the lane going either to his left or right, and then using his body and length to finish around the hoop, sometimes finishing through contact.
