Two high level prospects in the state of Michigan came closer to their basketball dreams coming true when they both recently received Division 1 offers. It’s neither the first, nor the last for these star players.
Max Burton Max Burton 6'10" | SF Williamston | 2022 State MI (2022, 6-10, SF, Williamston, Grand Rapids Storm 17u UA Rise)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #15
Burton received an offer from the University vof Missouri – Kansas City.
If you want to talk about a young man that’s very easily recruitable, here’s your guy. Having a GPA above a 3.8 flat out opens doors no matter what level you’re talking about. With that type of academic performance, anyone can recruit you without hesitation. Now for the basketball end of things. When you’re a 6-10 small forward, you’re going to get looks. But when you have skills like Burton’s, offers will follow. He’s a multi level scorer that can shoot over top of the D. Burton can also play physical in the lane and is a plus rebounder. He’s just a really difficult matchup because of his combination of size and skills. Burton will be able to stretch the floor and give opponents matchup issues at the next level.
John Blackwell John Blackwell 6'3" | CG Brother Rice | 2023 State #185 Nation MI (2023, 6-3, CG, Brother Rice, The Family)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #7
Blackwell received an offer from Northern Illinois.
Blackwell is an elite basketball talent here in Michigan and high majors are certainly paying attention. He can play on or off the ball effectively, but I really like his ability to create off the bounce. Blackwell pokes and prods at the defense looking for that opening or lane to the rim, and goes and goes hard. He does a nice job changing speeds to get his defender leaning or off balance. Blackwell is an excellent finisher at the rim where he uses his body control to stay balanced and get buckets.
