Alphabetically, here are the Standouts from Saturday Morning in the 2023 Class.
David Ackles |6’8 C| Whitefish Bay/ABC Young Lions Teal – The first thing that stands out is his size. He is very long and lanky and his arms go on forever. David is a fleet-footed big man that can step out and drill the 3-ball with a soft shot. His great length provides rim protection and rebounding. Ackles had a handful of nice O-board putbacks where he kept the ball high and stuck it back in.
Jackson Ressler |6’3 G| Lakeville South/Northstar Titans – He is great off the bounce, which puts a ton of pressure on the defense. Ressler has a killer crossover that leaves the D in the dust. I loved his finishes after contact and his fearlessness when attacking the cup. He was great at slicing his way through traffic. Jackson has a plethora of moves to keep the defense off-balance. I like his behind-the-back, hesitation, and spin move. Look out for this baller from Lakeville South.
Jaden Guyton |6’1 G| Whitefish Bay/ABC Young Lions Teal – This lefty is smooth, quick, and an overall athlete. His motor never stops unless he is subbed out. Guyton was excellent in transition this morning. I liked his winner-take-all attitude and how he never let up no matter how much they were winning by. Keep an eye on this electric player.
Kaden Christmann |5’11 G| Fargo Shanley/Next Level Basketball Academy – A 2024 kid playing up a level. I like his never-give-up attitude. Kaden is a crafty player with nice skills. He is not afraid to get into the paint with the big men. Christmann has good ball skills and a reliable jump shot. His effort was also something to make note of.
Landyn Nelson |6’2 G| Andover/Northstar Titans – He led all scorers in the first game with 18 points. This guard is the 3-point sniper for the Titans. Nelson spaces the floor and shoots well off the catch. He never forces and rarely misses. Landyn can also put it on the floor and score if the defense closes out too hard.
Sam Senske |6’3 G/F| Hawley/Next Level Basketball Academy – He was phenomenal in the 8:00 AM game. Sam was scoring early and often and he took over in the second half. Senske did the damage with jumpers and getting to the rack. He also posted up, had a sweet backdoor cut, scored off a BLOB, and had O-board buckets. Senke plays with a scoring attitude. He still dropped times and had some impressive crisp passes that he fit into tight windows. The Golden Nugget from Hawley shined this morning.
Tommy Fritsch |6’2 G| Greendale/ABC Young Lions – This shooter was red hot in the second half this AM. The left-wing was where he hit most of the triples from. Tommy is an in-rhythm catch and shoot player. After he catches, it does not take him long to get his shot off. Opposing teams do not want to leave this young gunner open or they will be paying the price.
Zach Wells |6’1 G/F| Lake Crystal – Welcome Memorial/MN Rise – I liked how physical he was in the post. When he had a smaller guard matched up on him he went straight to the block. Zach showed off a quick and efficient spin move this AM. Wells is an athletic finisher with either hand. I liked the looks of his smooth finger rolls. Zach was aggressive all game long and he scored a big basket lake to keep his team in contention. He was active on the glass and scored off O-boards. If you like physical and aggressive players then you want to watch Zach Wells.
