With that in mind, here are six standout guards from the event:
Jaden Clemons Jaden Clemons 6'1" | CG Hebron | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 6’1’’ Combo Guard | ProSkills Lee | Hebron HS – Clemons is wired to score. He relentlessly attacked the basket and made some big-time plays down the stretch of his Saturday afternoon contest. The Hebron guard knocked down a mid-range jumper from the elbow in the closing seconds of action, and that was ultimately the game-winning shot. This kid isn’t afraid of the moment. His shiftiness with the ball and his aggression as a scorer were fantastic.
Shane Perales Shane Perales 6'0" | PG South San Antonio | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 6’0’’ Point Guard | HD Toros Elite | South San Antonio HS – Perales was outstanding when it came to creating for others this weekend. The 2022 floor general is a great ball handler who navigates the floor extremely well. He showcased good playmaking instincts and operated well in pick-and-roll and pick-and-pop scenarios. His vision is solid as well. On defense, Perales displayed a nose for the basketball and active hands.
Nate Borchardt Nate Borchardt 6'1" | PG Lampasas | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 6’1’’ Combo Guard | ProSkills Austin Red | Lampasas HS – Borchardt is a terrific shooter from mid to long-range. He made shots while spotting up as well as off the dribble. The Lampasas prospect showed that he can stop-and-pop in transition while remaining under control. He also exhibited NBA range when shooting from deep. Beyond that, he did a good job of attacking poor closeouts and getting to his spots on offense.
Ryan Garza | 2023 | 6’4’’ Shooting Guard | HD Toros Elite | Harlan HS – Garza is another excellent shooter. He was responsible for a 17-point outing on Saturday, drilling shots in key moments of the game to help his team come out on top. The 2023 two-guard has good size and understands how to get himself open when playing away from the ball. He was always ready to fire when the ball hit his hands and was great at getting his shots off in rhythm regardless of the circumstances.
Avery Jackson Avery Jackson 6'1" | G Frisco Memorial | 2022 TX Jr. | 2022 | 6’3’’ Shooting Guard | Texas Dynasty | Frisco Memorial HS – Jackson is one of those players who is constantly finding ways to insert himself into the action. He is capable of getting a bucket from all three levels on offense. The Frisco Memorial prospect is a solid shooter from three-point land and slippery as a slasher. He made timely cuts to the basket and finished in traffic at the rim. In addition, he was an engaged defender on the perimeter.
Elijah Green | 2023 | 5’9’’ Point Guard | ProSkills Lee | Trinity HS – Green took care of the ball on offense and made some fabulous passes. He was a good decision maker in his Saturday matchup, manipulating defenders with his eyes and dribble and subsequently getting the ball to open teammates. The 5-foot-9-inch guard also displayed that he is a capable scorer when driving to the basket, finishing through contact as well as when surrounded by numerous bodies.
