Christian Winborne Christian Winborne 6'2" | CG Gilman | 2022 State #199 Nation MD | 6’3 | Gilman
Winborne missed a chunk of games due to taking multiple official visits, but when he was in attendance for the Hounds, there was no doubt that he was a top guard in the league. His ability to score at an alarming rate from all three levels is evident and for Gilman this season, he’ll need to produce at an extremely high-level night in and night out. With his success this summer for Team Thrill and in the EBA Summer League, there is plenty of indication that he’ll post some crooked scoring numbers before calling it a high school career.
Tyson Commander Tyson Commander 6'4" | SG The John Carroll School | 2022 State #203 Nation MD | 6’4 | John Carroll
Like Winborne, Commander missed some games throughout, but it was due to the June live period and the coaching staff watching his minutes. When he did lace up, Commander logged some productive outings and while he’s known for the unlimited range on his jumper, it was Commanders finishing around the rim plus his ability to create for others that really stood out.
DJ Leak DJ Leak 6'1" | PG Western Tech | 2022 MD | 5’10 | Western Tech
Leak was a clear standout among the guards within the entire league. When he wasn’t leading the Wolfpack in scoring, he was consistently using his ability to demand the defense’s attention to create open shots for others. His team leans heavily on him to produce as a scorer and he does so with efficiency considering the opposing team’s game plan is created around stopping him. Leak is a competitor on the defensive end, which comes to light when he’s guarding the ball handler the full length of the floor.
Nick Jones | 6’1 | Parkville
Jones may be the one player who I wasn’t aware of before the league that impressed me most. He’s still very skinny at 6-foot-1 but has some of the most surprising athleticism I’ve seen. His ability to finish well above the rim in transition whether it be on lobs or throwing it down with one-hand resulted in a dozen of electric finishes throughout the summer. Jones isn’t just a one-trick pony. He can make shots from beyond the arc, possesses decent basketball IQ and can be a scrappy defender. Jones also uses his athleticism on the boards to secure the ball at its peak.
Jadyn Williams Jadyn Williams 5'9" | PG Parkville | 2022 MD | 5’10 | Parkville
Williams handled the ball for Putty Hill and while he still has a tendency of dribbling one too many times on possessions, he did a nice job of getting his team in offensive sets and executing. There were games where he shot well from mid-range off the bounce and can finish with craft around the rim to avoid the extended arms of opposing shot-blockers. He’s a capable defender and isn’t afraid to duck down and grab a few boards.
Owen Fischer | 6’2 | Loyola Blakefield
Fisher put himself on my radar for the upcoming season after having a few breakout scoring outings. He’s a 6-foot-3 guard who can fill it up from three after seeing one go in and then will bait undisciplined defenders on closeouts with pump fakes to get to the mid-range area for jumpers. Fischer is a high IQ player who understands his limitations and has potential to be a really valuable Division III prospect.
