Alphabetically, let us look at 10 Crafty Playmakers:
Blake Volmer Blake Volmer 6'0" | CG Winner | 2023 State SD (2023) |6-3 G| Winner/SD Attack – He made this list because he is versatile, crafty, and he can do many things effectively on the basketball court. Blake is like a do-it-all Swiss Army Knife on the court. Volmer is a very productive player on both ends of the court. He is a knowledgeable kid that knows how to make the correct basketball play.
Drew Norberg Drew Norberg 5'10" | PG Watertown | 2022 State SD (2022) |6-1 G| Watertown/SD Attack – He made this list because of his toughness, high IQ, and his willingness to do the little things. Norberg is always moving without the ball while he is reading the defense and spacing the floor. He sets up his own shots by getting open and catching ready to shoot. Drew is always around the ball near the glass and fighting for rebounds.
Dylan Marshall Dylan Marshall 6'0" | PG White River | 2022 State SD (2022) |6-2 G| White River/SD Attack – He made this list because he is an intelligent and tough player. He is not flashy or overly athletic but he is efficient and a grinder. Dylan is not afraid to outwork the opposing team. He is a bright player, and part of that comes from being a coach’s kid. Marshall does everything on both ends of the court that helps his team be successful.
Isaiah Schafer Isaiah Schafer 6'1" | CG Bismarck Century | 2024 State ND (2024) |6-1 G| Bismarck Century/ECI – He made this list because of his court awareness and his shooting ability. Schafer can also put up big-time points from all 3-levels. Isaiah can see plays happen before others do on the court, which puts him a step ahead of everyone else. He is also a huge threat from downtown. Schafer has deep range with proper shooting form. He is playing up a year in AAU ball and he is taking it right in stride. I expect him to have a big year in the WDA with the Patriots.
Jake Deutsch Jake Deutsch 6'1" | SG Central Cass | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-1 G| Central Cass – He made this list because he excels at creating off the dribble. Jake is a pass-first point guard that looks to distribute first and score second. Jake can make the fancy pass, but he does a great job of making the extra pass. He will be a high-quality PG in Region-1 next season.
Kaden Year Kaden Year 6'2" | SF O'gorman | 2023 State SD (2023) |6-5 G/F| Sioux Falls Roosevelt/SD Attack – He made this list because of his flexibility and smarts. Kaden is a very skilled player that knows how to play the game correctly. He is an opportunistic scorer that knows how to take advantage of mismatches. With his size, smaller guards struggle against him around the basket. If bigger forwards guard him they struggle to keep up with his quickness and movement.
Kyler Moore Kyler Moore 6'1" | SG North Border | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-1 G| North Border/ND Attack – He made this list because he is a distributor and a creator. Kyler has a pass-first mentality. He sees the floor well and is always finding a teammate for a back cut, a lob to Ayden Stainbrook Ayden Stainbrook 6'5" | SF North Border | 2023 State ND , or a transition pass to TJ Cosley TJ Cosley 6'0" | PG North Border | 2023 State ND . The Eagles love how he gets the entire team involved. Look out for Moore and North Border in the high school season.
Raymond Brown Raymond Brown 5'11" | PG Fargo Davies | 2023 State ND (2023) |5-11 G| Fargo Davies/ECI – He made this list because of his extreme quickness. This quickness allows Brown to get into the paint and create for himself and others. Raymond is also a great finisher at the rim, especially after contact. Very few guards his size can finish amongst the trees like him. Brown’s quickness and body control make him a great playmaker. I expect his AAU season to continue to go well and Raymond will come into the high school season as a top guard in the EDC.
Sam Kobbervig Sam Kobbervig 6'3" | SG Central Cass | 2023 State ND (2023) |6-1 G| Central Cass/Master Basketball Academy – He made this list because he is an all-around baller and he possesses a very smooth jump shot. Sam has a great basketball mind that matches his polished skills. Kobbervig does a nice job of drawing help and making the extra pass to set up a teammate. He is also a smooth and creative finisher around the basket. I am expecting a big year for Kobbervig in Casselton.
Zander Newton Zander Newton 6'4" | SF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-4 F| West Fargo Sheyenne – He made this list because of his effective finishing around the rim. At times Zander can have a powerful slam or tip-in, others times he will have a soft and smooth finish. Newton also has nifty and stylish footwork on the block. When you add nice footwork with a great jab-step you have a solid player, that is exactly what you have with Newton.
