Athleticism and toughness were on display and some seniors continued to add to their resumes with this event. This piece focuses on those players and their games.
Ben Menker Ben Menker 6'5" | SF Mason | 2024 State OH (2024) Mason (6-3)
Menker was the only 2024 playing and he showed he belonged with the upperclassmen competing as well. All around talent with a lot of upside already. Understands the right play and makes the correct passes. Moves without the ball and disciplined to give up a good shot for someone else to make a great shot. Good size already for a sophomore.
Nate Paarlberg Nate Paarlberg 6'6" | PF Franklin | 2022 State OH (2022) Franklin (6-6)
Paarlberg is listed as a Center in the Coaches Packet but I forsee him as a Wing or Stretch 4 collegiately. High motor lefty. Tough on the inside both offensively and defensively. Plays with some inside-out potential. Can body up opposing big or step out and hit perimeter shots. This combo makes him a tough guy to defend and is a big reason why Mount Vernon Nazarene recently offered him. High ceiling as he continues to develop.
Ben Southerland Ben Southerland 6'7" | PF Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy | 2022 State #247 Nation OH (2022) Sycamore (6-7)
Southerland is the perfect mixture of a wing colleges will look for. For starters, he has great size for a wing at 6-7. Mismatch problem on the perimeter for most high school teams. Second, his athleticism is at a high level. Several impressive dunks and shots throughout the evening. Can elevate when needed on either ends of the floor. Finally, he understands the fundamentals. Similar to several other players I’ve mentioned, Ben makes the smart plays.
Louie Semona Louie Semona 6'7" | PF St Xavier | 2022 State OH (2022) St. Xavier (6-7)
Semona continues to show why he is one of the best players in the GCL South this upcoming season. Utilized his toughness and power on the perimeter. Physically overpowering as he knows how to use his body to score on and over defenders. Tough is the best way to describe Semona and his game.
Jayden Bradshaw Jayden Bradshaw 6'4" | SF Fayetteville Perry | 2022 State OH (2022) Fayetteville-Perry (6-3)
Bradshaw brought a ton of energy Wednesday evening especially on the defensive end. Fights through screens and communicates. Athletic playmaker and shot the ball very well in the midrange. Knocked down shots over defenders and especially off the bounce. More unknown prospect due to his location in high school but a sleeper in the 2022 class.
