While each guy had their own unique flare, all consistently rebounded the ball well. Take a look as I break down each performer and why they stood out.
Shawn Phillips (2022) Ypsi Prep (6-10)
Phillips has been a big name in Dayton since he debuted with Dayton Belmont several years ago. Spent some time at Ypsi Prep in Michigan and played well Wednesday at Walnut Hills. Looks slimmer and more like a D1 Post. Clearly was the biggest guy in the gym and used his size to his advantage. Solid postups and sealed off defenders. Improved hands and quicker with his spin move. Definitely has seen his recruitment continue to flourish as he recently received offers from Pittsburgh and Illinois.
Chander Starks (2023) Covington Catholic (6-6)
Starks was impressive at the Oak Hills Shootout and continued this impressive play Wednesday. Extremely hard working and high motor player. Versatile as a defender as he can successfully multiple positions due to his quickness. Extremely tough to box out and keep off the glass. Impressed me most with his defensive efforts against Paul McMillan IV Paul McMillan IV 6'2" | PG Woodward | 2022 State #229 Nation OH in their matchup. Starks has a high ceiling and looks to be a firm D1 caliber player.
Aamir Rogers Aamir Rogers 6'6" | C Fairfield | 2023 State OH (2023) Fairfield (6-7)
Rogers looked solid Wednesday after struggling when I watched him last at Oak Hills. Did his role which was rebounding at a high level. While there were limited post players competing, I thought Rogers fronted the post and worked hard to make life difficult for opposing bigs. This was evident as he defended Shawn Phillips during the event. Continues to make strides defensively and on the offensive end.
Carson Browne Carson Browne 6'8" | C Elder | 2023 State OH (2023) Elder (6-7)
Lengthy interior player. Doesn’t look like he would be the most physical guy, but really shows his toughness and grit. Rebounded the ball at a high level and finished at the rim well. Automatic when it came to finishing through traffic and continues to impress with his defensive efforts.
