The NCAA provided 6 Live Period Days in June (June 18th – 20th June 25th-27th) and 9 Days in July (July 8th – 11th, July 21st -26th). Some players used this period to justify their rankings, others as a way to catch the eyes of coaches and scouts. In this article, we take a look at some local players who used the summer to raise their stock.
DJ Thomas DJ Thomas 6'2" | PG Liberty | 2024 #19 Nation NV 6’0 PG Liberty 2024 (#1PHN 2024) – While Thomas is already the number 1 player in his class, this is more of a National Statement. The PG not only proved that he is an elite PG, he did it while playing up for the entire summer. Thomas rarely faced players his own age, yet dominated with huge performances. He put up a 40 piece in a Prephoops event in Colorado and had a 23 point game for the Oakland Soldiers playing against 16U EYBL competition.
Keenan Bey Keenan Bey 6'6" | SF Bishop Gorman | 2023 State NV 6’6 SF Bishop Gorman 2023 (#4PHN 2024) – Bey has always had the physical tools, now he’s showing the game. He’s improved his outside shooting, transforming himself into a more complete offensive weapon. Playing for Vegas Elite and Bishop Gorman, gives him a wealth of experience against quality competition, combine that with his skillset and athleticism, and it’s easy to see why his stock has risen.
John Derrick John Derrick 6'6" | PF Foothill | 2022 State NV 6’6 PF Foothill 2022 (#53PHN 2022) – Derrick’s size and agility have impressed more than 1 college coach, as I’ve started to have several schools inquire about him. Outside circumstances have limited his exposure opportunities, but he’s a good athlete that could be a perfect fit as a small-ball four for someone.
Jake Soleman Jake Soleman 6'6" | PF Hug | 2024 State NV 6’4 PF Sage Ridge 2024 (UR) (featured image) – Got a chance to see Soleman play last month and became instantly intrigued. The 4 man has some size, but he also possesses some skill. His ability to act as a pressure release 4 man was interesting, as several times the lefty used the dribble to advanced the ball into the frontcourt for his team. His best skill is his rebounding, as Soleman is one of the top in traffic rebounders I’ve seen.
Devin Mabry Devin Mabry 6'6" | PF Spring Valley | 2023 State NV 6’3 SF Arbor View 2023 (#40PHN 2022) – I saw Marbry once in the winter, and once in the Summer, I was impressed both times. The smooth forward is a good slasher with the ability to get to the rim. With size and length, being at a premium, a player like Marby, who is capable of creating for himself, is a valuable commodity. He’s still raw, which actually makes him the perfect stock riser candidate.
Decarlo Quintana Decarlo Quintana 6'4" | SF Carson | 2023 State NV 6’3 Carson City SG 2023 – Quintana is certainly a player that has come from way off the radar. After playing for CC his freshmen season, he missed an opportunity to play his sophomore year, due to the cancelation of the season. Recently he suited up for Vegas Elite, proving to be a tough defender, and showing good athleticism and quickness. His experience on the EYBL alone qualifies him as a stock riser.
