Players shine at different times during these events and we can only comment on what we saw when they played in front of us.
Here were some of top 2023 forwards from the Brawl for the Ball:
Andreas Engholm PF 6’7 Olympia/WA (Roots Academy)
-A face-up four-man who can score it from inside and out. He can shoot it from elbow and in plus extend out to the 3pt line. He can post up his man with power moves plus fade away and shoot it. He rebounds well with his length and strength.
Carter Gittens Carter Gittens 6'5" | SF Sunrise Mountain | 2023 State AZ Sunrise Mountain (Factory 2023) (Pictured)
-A long forward keeps impressing each event. He has athleticism, length and improving skill. He attacked the basket and got on the glass for extra possessions and put backs. He is one of those instant eye catchers when he plays well. He plays hard on both ends of the floor and is becoming a valuable asset for the Mustangs.
Gideon Harris Gideon Harris 6'2" | SF ABC Prep | 2023 State NM Del Norte/NM (NM D1 2023)
-A high-motored undersized forward plays with purpose. He rebounds the ball unusually well and seems to have a nose for the ball. He likes getting downhill on offense with euros mvoes and made perimeter jumpers to the 3pt line.
Masaiah Binford Masaiah Binford 6'4" | SF Ascending Life Prep | 2023 State AZ South Mountain (PAL Elite 2023)
-An athletic rising junior had some wow moments. He seemed to grow an inch or two in the last year and it has clearly helped him be able to play above the rim. He is very fluid and runs the floor well. He handles it, rebounds the ball at a good rate and his shooting has made a big jump up.
Vaughn Weems SF 6’5 Federal Way/WA (Fuego 2023)
-He was one of the more versatile scorers at the event. He is a natural downhill scorer with long arms. He rebounds well in traffic and comes with an elite layup package. He is very crafty and bursts up to score it near the rim.
KaShar Benton KaShar Benton 6'9" | C Skyline Prep | 2024 State AZ AZ Compass Prep (Team RHJ 2023)
-A big post player with great size and girth. He is slowly making strides and seems to be making a move with his progression. He has a nice drop step, rebounds the ball in the crowd with two hands and took a couple of charges. He is moving a little better then when I first saw him and he is a name to know.
