The field was a strong collection of 16 SoCal-based teams with a good amount of college prospects on each roster. In this piece we take a closer look at the standouts from the rising senior class who were not mentioned in our initial coverage of this event.
Nathan Perez Nathan Perez 6'4" | SG Saugus | 2022 State CA-S , Saugus – Perez has the ability to do a little bit of everything on the floor – a dribble, pass and shoot guy, if you will. The 6-foot-2 guard has a balanced catch-and-shoot three-point shot and can knock down rhythm mid-range jumpers off the bounce. His ability to play both on or off the ball on offense, combined with his rebounding and defensive IQ, allow him to play positions 1-3 on the court. Perez is getting looks from some very good Division II programs which, as far as level goes, is a good fit for him.
Jackson Hopps Jackson Hopps 6'2" | CG Culver City | 2022 State CA-S , Culver City – Hopps has carved out a nice role at Culver City as a defensive glue-guy who can also fill up the scoring column. The 6-foot-4 wing/guard has a strong, college-ready frame which helps him compete inside on the glass for rebounds on both ends of the floor. Hopps is a pretty smooth perimeter athlete on offense despite his strong frame. He can handle it a little when breaking a defender down to get to the basket for a power finish or pull-up for a mid-range jumper.
Myles Tan, Rolling Hills Prep – Tan has impeccable touch and footwork around the basket. When the 6-foot-7 forward gets a deep post catch he can turn over either shoulder and finish off the glass or with touch over the front of the rim. Tan isn’t an explosive vertical athlete, but he understands how to use and position his body to seal off a defender in the paint and receive a post-entry pass.
Seydi Thiombane, Rolling Hills Prep – Thiombane has come a long way with his development. The 6-foot-5 swingman used to be an energy and hustle guy who created second-chance opportunities and made plays on the defensive end for the Huskies. While Thiombane still plays with those traits and qualities, he’s mixing in some face-up 15-17 foot touch on his set shot and slashing and finishing off the ball.
Kesean Bazile, Victor Valley – Bazile impressed with his explosive scoring ability, especially from distance. The 6-footer knocked down five three-pointers en route to a game-high 33 points in a win over Leuzinger. Bazile has a quick trigger and deep range and punished defenders who went under screens on him.
