Here are a few wings from bigger schools who have turned heads this summer (in alphabetical order):
Ketraleus Aldridge, 6-foot-4 forward, 2023, KC United, Highland Park HS:
Aldridge showed that he’s going to push hard for playing time this fall. The Scots graduate some seniors, and opportunity is knocking. Aldridge is a very explosive player, who goes hard to the rim and finishes with authority. For his size, he is a smooth ball handler on the perimeter who can cross over a defender and blow into the lane. He shoots a reliable pull-up jumper. His athleticism could lead to big things at the defensive end too.
DeAngelo Dawkins, 6-foot-3 forward, 2023, Perry Ellis 34, Life Prep HS:
Not technically a ‘big school’ guy, but at a developmental program in the city, Dawkins put up nice numbers as a sophomore. But he’s demonstrating this summer that he could be a dynamic player ready to carry a bigger load. He maneuvers in the lane and gets shots off with his long reach and springiness. Dawkins plays like a post, but has got some high-level athleticism.
Keaton Hargrave, 6-foot guard/forward, 2024, SSA Hoops Elite, Abilene:
Hargrave will be just a sophomore, but there might just be some opportunities at Abilene next year. He’s a gritty player who gets in the lane and rebounds like a bigger player. Once the ball is in his hands, he’s going to go full-speed and make good things happen. He has the ball handling skills to be a lead guard, but versatility and physicality for a variety of roles.
Jaxon Klein, 6-foot-5 forward, 2024, KC Spurs, Blue Valley Northwest HS:
One of the more entertaining players to watch this summer, Klein plays with reckless abandon. He can get into the lane with his ability to handle the ball and push the tempo. Once he gets going, he has the athleticism to make acrobatic plays. Klein has the length and skill to be a riser in KC.
Ian McNabb, 6-foot-1 guard/forward, 2024, SSA Hoops Elite, Manhattan HS:
One of the interchangeable parts of the gritty SSA 2024s, McNabb does some of everything. He has the deep shot and the handle, but he’s does a lot of dirty work too. He rebounds hard and often follows up in transition. He plays team ball and defends with purpose.
Mason English, 6-foot-2 guard/forward, 2024, Victory Ministry, Pittsburg HS:
English opened eyes with his skills from deep this summer. English is sort of a ‘tweener,’ playing primarily in the backcourt and handling the ball against pressure, but he’s got the body of a power forward. English is best when moving the ball on the perimeter to find an open shot.
