Continue ReadingThe summer of 2021 is here and AAU basketball will rule practically every weekend in July. Things got off to a fast start the first three days of the month as the NW Sports Hub in Centralia hosted WCE’s Battle in Seattle. We got a chance to catch a number of games on days two and three of the event and it felt good to soak in the first real club basketball action in over a year.
Our focus was on Oregon-based teams and some of the best were there. Here’s a look at some more of the top performers we saw from the Class of 2022.
Logan Thebiay Logan Thebiay 6'10" | PF Wilsonville | 2022 State OR , International Elite Brown (2022 Wilsonville)
We’ve noticed Thebiay’s overall improvement in his body and conditioning but it really came out this past weekend as International Elite really looked to push the ball and run. The 6-foot-10 post kept up well with the pace and had some stong finishes at the rim in transition, including one impressive alley-oop flush.
Noah Ogoli Noah Ogoli 6'2" | CG Tualatin | 2022 State OR , International Elite Brown (2022 Tualatin)
During the season with Tualatin, Ogoli often settled for jumpers but in Centralia, he really attacked the basket. He did can a number of perimeter jumpers both from long range and the pull-up though, and was extremely quick in getting out on the break and converting at the hoop.
Trevon Hamilton Trevon Hamilton 6'2" | PG Beaverton | 2022 State OR , International Elite Brown (2022 Beaverton)
Hamilton was a brand new addition to International Elite and seemed to fit in quite nicely with his new teammates. The pure point guard definitely impressed with some of his pinpoint and unselfish passing, but as the tournament went on he started getting more aggressive with his own offense. He was also a pest defensively in the passing lanes.
Cameron Andre-Covington Cameron Andre-Covington 6'9" | PF Columbia Christian | 2021 State OR , International Elite Brown (2022 TBA)
Andre-Covington was listed as a senior this year at Columbia Christian but the word is he’s going to prep school. Physically at 6-foot-9, long, and athletic, he will always turn heads but on day three his on-the-floor production matched his looks. He ran the floor, blocked a shot, and got a couple of transition buckets.
Benjamin Cheung Benjamin Cheung 6'4" | SG Valley Catholic | 2022 State OR , Northwest Select 17U (2022 Valley Catholic)
Cheung was originally going to play in Taiwan this summer but ended up staying home due to the pandemic starting to ramp up again on the Island. A newcomer to this Washington-based team, he largely looked to fit in and do what he does well which is shoot the ball. Cheung set up shop on the wings and in the corners and knocked down open threes.
Raysean Seamster Raysean Seamster 6'6" | SF Roosevelt | 2022 State OR , Rotary 17U EYBL (2022 Roosevelt)
Unfortunately the schedules didn’t align for us to see Rotary as much as we would have liked to, but we did catch a glimpse of Seamster and he was getting quality court time. As usual, he used his length, athleticism, and motor to make plays on both ends of the floor.
