Continue ReadingI spent much of this past weekend checking out 17U and 16U action in Louisville at Ballin Under 1 Roof. Of all the positions I watched, Point Guards were the most impressive to me. Throughout the weekend there were great performances from numerous guys that impressed with unselfishness, awareness, and defensive play. Below is Part 1 of a breakdown of the best PGs at Ballin Under 1 Roof.
Josh Harlan All Ohio Select (Pickerington Central) 5-11 2022
Harlan did the little things well which is why he ultimately made this list. Hustled on every play and didn’t take possessions on either end off. Demonstrated leadership running the point, orchestrating the offense. Excelled in pick-and-roll using the screens and accelerating to the rim. Finished through contact and still got shots up. Communicated on the defensive end.
Sean Keller Sean Keller 5'11" | PG Elder | 2022 State OH Shining Star s-Price (Elder) 5-11 2022
Lefty shot the skin off the ball against Dayton Elite. Impressed me with his ability to continuously get shots off even with tighter defense. Used his dribble to create separation and had consistently got shots up. Good passer when he wasn’t shooting the ball. Plays fundamentally the correct way.
Jordan Kynard Jordan Kynard 6'0" | PG Toledo Rogers | 2022 OH Bates Fundamentals Red (Toledo Rogers) 6-0 2022
Great two-way player for a loaded Bates team. Defensively is disruptive with his quickness. Moves well with the ball. Great distributor and not afraid to give the ball up. Has the quickness to get by slower defenders and showed consistency getting by any defenders.
Aiden Porter Aiden Porter 6'1" | PG Fairland | 2022 State OH Mid Ohio Pumas (Fairland) 6-0 2022
Porter set the tempo for the weekend and set the bar high for other PGs to follow. Unselfish and looks to make the simpler pass. Good acceleration. Penetrates and makes effective passes to his many shooting options for teammates. Doesn’t come across as the most physically imposing guard but will get down in a defensive stance and guard whoever.
Sasha Stavroff Sasha Stavroff 5'11" | CG Dublin Jerome | 2023 State OH Nova Village-Stavroff (Dublin Jerome) 5-11 2023
One of the more patient guards that competed during the weekend. Stavroff isn’t a guy that is going to surprise you on the stat sheet but will make the smart plays to help a team win. Likes to use the pick-and-roll and does it effectively. Makes the extra pass. Great shooting stroke when he chooses to put shots up.
Mason Studer Mason Studer 5'11" | PG Colonel Crawford | 2022 State OH Ohio Buckets-Lash (Colonel Crawford) 6-0 2022
Studer impressed against a very good Indy Heat Red team in Pool play. Possessed the ball without succumbing to the pressure from Indy Heat’s size and defensive talent. Good handle of the basketball and was a very good decision maker with sharing the ball with his multiple scoring options.
