In this piece, I focus on Indiana’s top players I watched. Plenty of 2023s are available on this list and should be considered by college coaches as should the few 2022s as well.
Preston Ross Preston Ross 6'8" | PF Bishop Dwenger | 2023 State IN – Indy Heat Red (Bishop Dwenger) 6-8 PF (2023)
I saw Ross play twice and I have to say, he might have been my favorite prospect from Indiana throughout the weekend. Promising when you see his size at only a junior. His actual play is great as well. Defensive glue guy on the perimeter. Aware of where guys are on defense and plays smart with high hands and quick feet. Competes on the glass and plays tough with anyone. Definitely looks to be a solid D2 prospect and showed he can compete against high level talent.
Cole Wojciechowski Cole Wojciechowski 6'9" | C Penn | 2022 IN – IABC Red (Penn) 6-8 C (2022)
Absolutely huge big man. Looks like an offensive lineman when matching up. Very good feel around the rim with a soft touch. Post moves are smooth and clean. Obviously not the fastest player but makes up for it with his focus on the fundamentals when working in the paint. Should see some collegiate attention due to his size, but hard to tell what level I’d put him.
Christian Nunn Christian Nunn 6'3" | SF L'anse Creuse North | 2022 State IN – Gym Rats Black (Crispus Attucks) 6-4 SG (2022)
Nunn showed he could score the ball from multiple levels in a game against a good Mid Ohio Pumas team. Produced offense for himself with his mechanics and athleticism. Very good off the bounce and tough to stay in front of. Forces defenses to adjust to keep him isolated on the perimeter. Must improve as a defender on-ball as he did struggle defending some of the Pumas’ guards. Regardless though, Nunn is a player worth following the rest of July.
Gage Sefton Gage Sefton 6'4" | SG Blackhawk Christian | 2023 State IN – Indy Heat Red (Blackhawk Christian) 6-5 SG (2023)
Sefton has good length and size for a SG. Very solid player and has the mindset of a PF on the defensive end. Contested shots at the rim and forced All Ohio Select guards to think about whether Sefton was near. Shooting threat anywhere around the perimeter and will shoot and score over defenders with his size. Would like to see him again against another quality team and see what other capabilities he has.
Ethan McComb- Marlin Elite (Center Grove) 6-1 SG (2023)
I had not heard of Marlin Elite going into their matchup against Mid Ohio Pumas. McComb quickly showed me these guys have some ballers on their team. Decent guard that makes the right plays. Works hard on both ends of the floor and outhustles others. Passed the ball well in transition and got the ball in the right guys’ hands. Good shooting mechanics and again makes the smart reads and smart shots when needed.
