Had the great pleasure of visiting a pair of friends at Kell HS last week when Coach Mel Clemmons invited me down to watch his GA Stars 2023 EYBL team work out with Coach Carlos Wallace’s GA Stars 2023 Select team.

Both teams are loaded with both established names as well as others who’ve used the Spring and early Summer to make moves on the landscape. Highly regarded 2023 guard Chase Clemmons, soon to be off to Legacy Early College in Greenville SC, is still not back from his December injury and did not participate in the workout.

Some observations:

2023 EYBL

Isaiah West Isaiah West 6'3" | SG Goodpasture | 2023 State #180 Nation TN , 6-2, PG (Good Pasture, TN)

Plays with a kind of ferocity at both ends buoyed by superior athleticism and a court acumen that clearly supports his high national ranking, in a covid-shortened season he was among last summer’s absolute bright spots as the Stars made a lot of waves at LakePoint’s Battle for GA and you can see he’s added a layer of composure to his all-court ability to take over a possession, has it all for a future D1 PG with the frame, shooting range, hard-driving and high-level defense.
