The talent was elite, the crowd showed out, and the competitiveness in each game was palpable. Here are the some of the best performances from Western region prospects over the weekend:
Maxwell Lewis Maxwell Lewis 6'6" | SF Hillcrest Prep | 2020 #66 Nation AZ | 6’8″ SF | Dream Vision 17U (pictured)
Lewis reclassified to the 2021 class and is still uncommitted, but he has proven his abilities on the adidas circuit this summer. His original plan was to go pro, but now that he has made clear his intentions to go the college route, calls are starting to roll in for the switchable, versatile forward. Lewis was a menace in the open floor, where he could show off his bounce and energy.
Milos Uzan Milos Uzan 6'4" | PG Dream City Christian | 2022 State #60 Nation AZ | 6’4″ PG | Dream Vision 17U
Uzan has bounced around a bit over the last few years. He originally comes from the Las Vegas area, but transferred to Prolific Prep (CA) while Nevada was shut down during the pandemic. He will now head to Dream City Christian (AZ) for his senior season and will immediately be one of the top initiators in the state. Uzan showed off elite court vision and passing ability on his way to earning a championship with Dream Vision.
Lamar Washington Lamar Washington 6'4" | CG AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State #128 Nation AZ | 6’4″ CG | Dream Vision 17U
Physicality and skill is an extremely dangerous combination when a player knows how to assert both aspects together seamlessly. Washington can go right through guards and even many bigs with his big frame, and has the touch and self-organization to evade contests and kiss it off the glass. He can pass it well too, and lock up a ball-handler when he needs to. Washington was one of the more complete players among the talented group of prospects in Omaha.
Darius Carr | 6’3″ CG | Compton Magic 16U
I got a few looks at Carr over the weekend and he was one of the most explosive athletes with a live-dribble at the entire event. His burst was unmatched, and he had the body control required to finish through traffic from tough angles. He competed hard on both ends pretty much every minute he spent on the court, which surely attracted the attention of college coaches at the event. Washington State offered him yesterday after seeing him in Omaha, his second Pac-12 offer this summer. One of the most exciting plays of the weekend came on a 2v1 fast break with Carr streaking in from the perimeter and throwing down a thunderous dunk off an alley-oop which he caught with one hand and flushed it home all in one motion.
