I made the trip to Birmingham, AL where there were a number of events I attended including the Adidas 3SSB Session One and the Prep Hoops Circuit “The Platform.”
With so many talented players in one area for coaches to see, it will be tons of content coming out with standouts from both events.
Here’s a look at part one of the standouts from 3SSB, looking at players from Georgia, California and Ohio.
Jalen Carruth | 6’6” WG | Atlanta Celtics
Carruth started things off very well for the Celtics on Thursday when I watched him, as he showed why he is starting to see high majors get involved with him. At 6’6” with a strong frame, he can play and guard multiple positions, he shot it very well from deep but at the same time he didn’t settle and attacked the paint forcing the issue as well. He was a big reason the Celtics played so well throughout the weekend and should see his stock rise moving forward.
Kaleb Banks Kaleb Banks 6'8" | SF Fayette County | 2022 State #98 Nation GA | 6’7” WF | Atlanta Celtics
Banks was another wing that played well for the Celtics when I watched him, and it’s no wonder why when I asked about his recruitment it seemed that he was one of the hottest recruits on the east coast and he picked up more offers this weekend too. He looks the part with ease as he’s long and lanky with prototypical size for his position, and he impacts the game in so many ways when he’s on the floor. He can put it on the deck and get to the rim where he can finish above it, he can make shots from multiple levels and he’s a versatile defender as well.
Jameel Rideout Jameel Rideout 6'2" | PG Berkmar | 2022 State GA | 6’0” PG | Atlanta Celtics
Rideout is one of the most underrated guys I saw throughout the weekend, as the talented lead guard was huge for the Celtics with his ability to set the table and make plays. He’s a gifted ball handler and can create space and make shots from multiple levels, and he’s able to get in the lane at will where he can find others for easy looks too. He’s a tone setter on both ends and he plays with a chip as well.
Dylan Andrews | 6’4” CG | Compton Magic
The UCLA commit was fantastic for the Magic throughout the weekend as I watched them multiple times, and one thing Andrews really knows how to do is score the basketball. The 6’4” combo can make shots both on and off the ball, but it was his ability with it in his hands late in shot clock situations to be able to create space and knock it down from anywhere on the court that really impressed me. While he’s a scorer he isn’t selfish and showed a high IQ, and he filled it up confidently as well.
Quinton Webb Quinton Webb 6'7" | PF Etiwanda | 2022 State CA-S | 6’5” WF | Compton Magic
Webb is an underrated piece to this Magic team because he brings a very important role to his team and that’s his ability to knock down shots at a high clip and stretch the floor. The wing out of Etiwanda High School is already being touted as one of the top mid major prospects on the west coast, and it makes sense as he presents good size as a shooter and he competes on both ends. He has deep range and a quick release, works well off the ball to get open and has a knack for being around the ball.
Ben Southerland Ben Southerland 6'7" | PF Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy | 2022 State #247 Nation OH | 6’7” F | Midwest Basketball Club
Midwest had a great weekend as they were one of the most skilled groups in the 17U division, and while their young guards that are playing up got a lot of the buzz Southerland was quietly one of their most consistent pieces. The 6’7” forward is someone who presents a mismatch problem as he can play inside-out, he has a quick release on catch-and-shoot opportunities and he can put it on the deck and get to the rack as well. He’s the type of player who would fit perfectly into a Princeton style at the next level with his ability to shoot, dribble and pass at his size.
Enkhiin-Od Sharavjamts | 6’7” WF | Midwest Basketball Club
“Mike” as he’s known by teammates and coaches which is much easier to pronounce, is a Mongolian national that plays on their national team and played for Prolific Prep last season in California. The 6’7” wing is very intriguing with his blend of size, skill and athleticism, as he has quite the bag to score it as well as being a productive rebounder and a good defender as well. He plays with good pace off the bounce and has a great hesitation, he can score it from multiple levels and he has great feel too.
