Continue ReadingIn late June we published our Pennsylvania Class of 2022 prospect rankings and by now you are familiar with the names at the top of our list like Rodney Gallagher Rodney Gallagher 6'0" | CG Laurel Highlands | 2023 State #176 Nation PA , Davion Hill Davion Hill 6'0" | CG St. John Neumann | 2023 State PA , Justin Edwards Justin Edwards 6'6" | PF Imhotep Charter | 2023 State #3 Nation PA and Darrien Grady Darrien Grady 5'9" | PG Shipley School | 2023 State PA . So today we decided to take a deep dive into Prephoops.com’s Pennsylvania Class of 2022 rankings to reveal some names outside the Top 50 we believe you should become more familiar with during the summer recruiting period.
All of the names below are very talented 2022 southeastern Pennsylvania prospects who are primed to have their national breakout on the grassroots circuit here in July 2021.
#53… Jacob Beccles Jacob Beccles 6'3" | CG Constitution | 2022 State PA – 6’3” / Constitution / Team Durant EYBL / Combo Guard: It was an impressive spring grassroots season for Beccles, (2020-21 PIAA 2A 2nd Team All-State selection) as he proved he can score the ball in bunches. Beccles was a blur in transition and finished through traffic. In the half-court, his jump shot was very effective from the mid-range to behind the arc. In June at Philly HS Live (Session II) He impressed with his ability to stop on a dime and knock down a jumper and posted several excellent scoring games including 29 points vs. Parkland (PA) as well as 23 points vs. Bensalem (PA).
#75… Daniel Alcantara Daniel Alcantara 6'4" | SG Reading | 2022 State PA – 6’4” / Reading / Team Final Red / Shooting Guard: Alcantara is an elite scorer at all three levels who is patient and takes advantage of the opportunities that defenses give him. In late May Alcantara was electric at Team Final Day, scoring 24 points in TFR’s highly anticipated match-up with Team Final EYBL. Most high level prospects on the circuit can score the ball, but what separates Alcantara from that already elite pack is that at the defensive end of the floor, he is an absolute menace. At Philly HS Live (Session II) this long, super athlete dominated games defensively via man-to-man ball pressure, by causing havoc in a zone trap scheme, blocking shots and crashing the glass. Even on the grassroots circuit (where defense is optional), he gives maximum effort on defense and is a disruptive force.
#88… Michael Walz Michael Walz 6'11" | PF Conestoga | 2022 State PA – 6’10” / Conestoga / Philly Pride National UAA / Power Forward: After a tremendous run on the spring grassroots circuit, Walz has become arguably the hottest big man prospect in southeastern PA. At Philly HS Live his meteoric rise continued. There he proved he can play the modern era stretch-four role. Walz (225 lbs.) scored on the interior with both hands and stepped out to the arc to drain threes. A relentless motor and high basketball IQ compliment his polished skill set. He owns multiple DI offer including ones from Richmond, Penn State, Bucknell and Delaware. There’s no shame in that list. Still think that after a strong July, Walz will be a national name and have offers from numerous high DI schools.
#113… Daniel Skillings Daniel Skillings 6'5" | SG Roman Catholic | 2022 State PA – 6’5” / Roman Catholic / Philly Pride National UAA / Wing: Skillings used the Philly HS Live sessions as his own personal launch party. He absolutely crushed Session I and that high level of play continued at Session II. Skillings is a prospect who can flat out get buckets at all 3 levels. He proved that Philly HS Live (Session II) by hanging 28 points (14 boards as well) on DJ Wagner and Camden HS (NJ). A versatile, athletic and very skilled wing, Skillings game appears to be effortless. At the Battle for the Bell his ability to stop on a dime for a pull up jumper was especially impressive. Skillings is no slouch on the defensive end either. A rarity among offensive weapons of his caliber. Skillings holds offers from local school Temple and Drexel. In the last two weeks he picked up offers from VCU, Towson, UMass, URI and Hofstra., but this kid has ACC, Big East, Big 10 or PAC 12 written all over him. We expect Skillings will attract that level of attention here in July.
#148… Liam Joyce Liam Joyce 6'6" | PF Allentown Central Catholic | 2022 State PA – 6’6” / Allentown Central Catholic / L&L Running Rebels / Power Forward: It’s hard to believe that a prospect who won a 4A state title, was named PIAA 4A 1st Team All-State; played excellent basketball on the spring grassroots circuit and then again during the June high school live period is flying under the radar, but that seems to be the case with Joyce. Maybe it’s his old school, not-so-flashy interior game that is perplexing coaches and scouts. However there’s no confusion on our end. In our opinion this power forward is a DI prospect. Starting at the elbows or free throw line extended areas, Joyce has been relentless at driving the ball to the cup. Joyce also has exhibited the size and footwork to establish position on the blocks and then score with either hand. Additionally, he does an excellent job on the boards where he frequently converts on second chance opportunities. Watch for Joyce to dominate foes in the paint this July.
#149… Chas Kelley Chas Kelley 6'5" | PG Phelps | 2022 State PA – 6’4” / Phelps School / Team Durant EYBL / Point Guard: This Texas native is a long, athletic player who is a floor general style of point guard. As a bonus to being a “coach on the floor”, Kelley has an excellent jump shot and can create off the dribble for himself. He also can hit the 3-pointer and posted several games on the grassroots circuit in which he drained 5 threes. Playing at the Mid Atlantic Independent Shootout with his high school team (Phelps School), Kelley turned a lot of heads with his ability to penetrate and get to his mid-range game. Offers have come in for Kelley from places like LaSalle, Iona, Charlotte, Boston College, UMass, etc. However, this point guard has major DI potential and we expect that after some impressive games here in July, that he will be hearing from the big boys.
