2024 CG Redek Born Redek Born 6'3" | PG Norwalk | 2024 State IA (Norwalk)
Born got the morning started with a huge game against Southeast Polk. The younger brother of former Mr. Basketball Bowen Born Bowen Born 5'11" | PG Norwalk | 2020 State #401 Nation IA , Redek is already bigger than Bowen and has the same smooth offensive game. He shoots it really well from behind the arc and has a good feel for the game. He handles and sees the floor at a high-level, often times seeing plays before they happen. He’s a good passer who is equally adept getting others involved or getting his own shot. He gets the ball into his shooting pocket quickly off the dribble and can shoot it off the bounce going in either direction. As he continues to mature more physically, look for him to become the aggressive, attacking scorer that Bowen became as his career progressed. He does a good job of sitting in a stance and moving his feet and using his length to make an impact on the defensive end of the floor as well. Born finished with 25 points and 7 assists in the Warriors’ win over the Rams. (Sorry for the picture, Redek. I didn’t realize your eyes were closed until well after we took it; we’ll have to get another one!)
2023 SF Braeden Carlson (Norwalk)
A 6-4 wing who rebounds at a high level on both ends of the floor, Carlson impressed with his off-ball movement. He finishes well around the rim and does a great job moving without the ball to find open spaces in the defense and get easy buckets. If he can add some range to his game, he could emerge as a really solid secondary option alongside Born for the Warriors. He had 20 points and a slew of rebounds in the Warriors win.
2025 PG Bodie Goodman (Southeast Polk)
Due to a football camp conflict, the Rams brought all incoming freshmen to the camp this morning, but Goodman was a standout with his ability to shoot the ball. He knocked down six 3s in the loss to Norwalk, showing the ability to shoot it both off the dribble and the catch. He used that potent stroke to open up the rest of his offensive game in the second half, getting to the bucket a few times for scores. He finished with 24 points.
2023 SF Luke Keitges Luke Keitges 6'5" | SF Knoxville | 2023 State IA (Knoxville)
Keitges was just a different level player than the rest of the kids on the floor in the Panthers win over Panorama. The 6-5 forward opened things up by bullying his way to the rim a few times for easy buckets, and then showcased his silky smooth stroke with range well beyond the high school line. He gets great rotation on his jumper, which allows him to get some friendly bounces on the rare occasions his shot touches the rim. In the second half, he did a great job establishing strong post position and using his solid footwork and touch to score at will around the bucket. He rebounds at a high level on both ends of the floor, and is a willing passer who sees the floor well. He’s always playing under control, and is a good help defender who came from the weakside for a few big blocks as well. Keitges finished with 29 points.
2024 PG Trovary Cavil Trovary Cavil 5'11" | PG Johnston | 2024 State IA (Des Moines Lincoln)
Cavil is coming off a very productive freshman season for the Railsplitters in which he led the team in scoring and assists, and it’s easy to see why. He plays under control and is an excellent ball-handler who utilizes ball screens at a high level. He can turn the corner and get into the paint, where he can finish or dish it, and he has a very good pull-up mid-range jumper. He looks like he’s becoming a more efficient scorer and taking better care of the ball, which will go a long ways in helping a young Lincoln team improve this winter.
2023 SF Colby Collison Colby Collison 6'4" | SF Bondurant-Farrar | 2023 State IA (Bondurant-Farrar)
A 6-4 wing who lets the game come to him, Collison is a versatile scorer who is equally adept getting to the rim or filling it up from the mid-range and arc. He has a keen sense of when he needs to take over as a scorer, as he did midway through the second half, putting his head down and getting to the bucket both in transition and in the halfcourt. He’s a smart player who doesn’t force anything and is willing to pass up his good shot for a teammate’s great shot.
2023 F Charlie Willmott Charlie Willmott 6'4" | PF Indianola | 2023 State IA (Indianola)
Earlham had absolutely no answer for Willmott, as the 6-6 junior combo forward scored at will in the first half, racking up 24 points before the break. After shooting just 2-9 from behind the arc as a sophomore, Willmott knocked down four first half 3s, showing a clean release and smooth stroke from the corner. He has great footwork and hands around the rim, and has the ability to put the ball on the floor against slower-footed defenders and get to the rim. A good rebounder on both ends, he runs the floor hard and is a versatile scorer. He was excellent for an Indians team playing without standout wing Drew Kingery Drew Kingery 6'4" | SF Indianola | 2023 State IA , and if Willmott plays anything like this during the winter, Indianola could be a team to be reckoned with.
