Snyder was a key role player last year for the Jaguars, and he looks ready to step into a larger role as a senior. A 6-1 wing, he’s a really good athlete with a great, athletic frame. He finishes through contact at a high level around the rim, and he did a really nice job handling the ball and making decisions in the pick-and-roll. He’s a good, not great, perimeter shooter who can also defend multiple positions with his blend of size, strength, and athleticism.
2022 PF Jared Wasson (Panorama)
The Panthers lost their top five scorers from last year’s team, but Wasson looks capable of stepping into a primary scoring role. A 6-4 forward, he does a good job establishing early post position, and he has really good hands. He showed range out to about 15 feet, and you can play through him in the high post, as he showed the ability to see the floor really well from that spot and get others involved.
2022 PG Cooper Nailor Cooper Nailor 5'11" | PG Indianola | 2022 State IA (Indianola)
A high-level ball-handler who sees the floor extremely well, Nailor is the straw that stirs the drink for Indianola’s high-powered offense. He values possessions and doesn’t force anything, does a great job getting others involved, and showed the ability to score around the rim and knock down 3s off the dribble or the catch.
2023 SF Karson Wehde (Ankeny)
Wehde is a big wing who uses his size and physicality to his advantage, rebounding at a high level on both ends of the floor. He really stood out for the Hawks as a shooter, showing a quick release off the catch and smooth off-ball movements to find spaces in the defense. He knocked down three 3-pointers in the Hawks’ loss to Ballard when we watched them.
2022 SG Levi Gurwell Levi Gurwell 5'8" | SG Winterset | 2022 State IA (Winterset)
Gurwell didn’t shoot it the best in the games that we saw the Huskies play, but it’s easy to see how he averaged 16.5 points a game last year – the senior-to-be guard is a pure scorer who can fill it up from all three levels. He has a smooth stroke from 3 and can shoot it effectively both off the dribble and the catch. A good ball-handler, he looks to attack hard closeouts and get to the bucket. Look for him to have a big senior year scoring the rock.
2022 PG Dawson Forgy Dawson Forgy 5'11" | PG Winterset | 2022 State IA (Winterset)
Forgy missed Friday night’s action due to baseball, but was on the hardwood on Saturday. A compact lead guard, he sees the floor really well and is a great passer who thrives on getting others involved. One of the top running backs in the state, he has a quick burst that he uses to blow by defenders, and he uses his strong frame to finish through contact.
2022 EJ Fransman (Pella Christian)
With standout big Eric Mulder Eric Mulder 6'8" | PF Pella Christian | 2022 State IA up in Minneapolis for the MBCA Showcase, Fransman stepped up and played a key role for the Eagles on Saturday. A long, 6-7 forward, he showed the ability to score around the rim and stretch the floor, knocking down a 3 and a mid-range jumper. He’s thin but has excellent length that he uses to contest shots. He could be a major contributor for a team that should be among the best in 2A this season.
