#5 Keyontae Lewis Keyontae Lewis 6'7" | PF LC Bird | 2022 State VA | 6’8” | LC Bird (#23 Overall)
Lewis is criminally under recruited in my opinion, as he holds just two offers from Bryant and Kent State, and when coaches get an opportunity to come see the way he’s developed his body and game over the past few years he will see more opportunities. He’s a very big guy who can carve out space in the paint and finish through traffic, but he also has good touch and is a good passer in the paint and out to the elbows as well. He plays with a good motor and is all over the glass, he’s become more aggressive as of late and his improved conditioning makes him better for longer spurts than he used to be.
#4 Greg Melvin Greg Melvin 6'7" | PF Cape Henry | 2022 State VA | 6’7” | Cape Henry (#21 Overall)
Melvin is a great glue guy at the next level who holds a handful of division one offers and should get more as he continues to improve and show what he can do. He’s an inside-out guy who can block shots and rebounds very well in the paint, but he can also step out and guard on the perimeter and he’s able to catch and shoot and make plays on the perimeter as well. He’s a guy who will do the dirty work and make the hustle plays, he has good hands and attacks the glass hard and he’s a big time athlete that has tons of room to develop moving forward.
#3 Miles Webb Miles Webb 6'7" | PF St. Stephen's St. Agnes | 2022 State VA | 6’7” | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes (#17 Overall)
One of the most versatile bigs in the state, Webb has come a long way since we first saw him as a reserve his sophomore year on the SSSAS team that went to the state championship team. He’s a long and fluid athlete that excels on the defensive end where he can guard wings and bigs, and he’s improved in his ability to put it on the deck and make shots from deep. He’s usually very efficient and a walking mismatch with all of those things, he’s excellent in the dunker spot as a catch and finish guy and he really steps up against other elite competition.
#2 Houston Emory Houston Emory 6'10" | C Blue Ridge | 2022 State VA | 6’10” | Blue Ridge (#14 Overall)
Emory missed all of last season due to a back injury, however he came back this spring looking like he didn’t miss a beat and has continued to improve in a number of ways over the past few years. He’s a blue collar guy who will tell you immediately when you talk to him that his main focus is on the defensive end, but he’s improved offensively in his ability to step out and stretch the floor and make shots from deep. He’s quick off his feet and an athletic finisher above the rim, he has some toughness to him you may not expect when you first see him and his blue collar mentality and style of play along with the way he has improved bolds well for him moving forward.
#1 Maliq Brown Maliq Brown 6'8" | PF Blue Ridge | 2022 State #123 Nation VA | 6’8” | Blue Ridge (#2 Overall)
Brown has been at the top of our rankings since his freshman season, and we keep him near the top despite the fact that he’s underrated and under ranked in the national rankings due to the fact that he’s not really a highlight or flashy type of player. Brown is a natural athlete that can run the floor with guards and wings in transition, he’s an excellent defender that can switch onto guards and wings and move his feet and stay in front, he’s a very good rebounder in traffic and out of his area and he is one of the most efficient guys who finishes everything in the paint and plays extremely well in traffic. He’s being recruited by quite a bit of colleges, and he’s a player who will have an opportunity to make an impact at the next level with his defensive ability and the ways that he can impact the game without the ball being in his hands.
