Continue ReadingI spent my day Friday in Shelbyville at the Titans/Rockets Shootout where D1 coaches were allowed out for the first time since July of 2019. That’s the only day I was able to watch games in person but I was able to do some watching via live stream the rest of the weekend. These are only top performers I was actually able to see either in person or on streaming. This is not a list of top overall performers for the event.
Travis Perry Travis Perry 6'2" | PG Lyon County | 2024 State #115 Nation KY , Lyon County – Travis was on his way to a 50 point game on Friday before an ankle roll slowed him down in the second half and ultimately ended his weekend early. Perry hit 8 threes against North Laurel and ended up with 34 points in a narrow loss. There was a big crowd for the North Laurel game and multiple high major coaches left impressed with our top ranked 2024.
Damone King Damone King 6'0" | PG DeSales | 2024 State KY , Manual – Give me all the Damone King Damone King 6'0" | PG DeSales | 2024 State KY stock! He’s long and athletic but he’s a floor raiser who makes everyone around him better. His energy and leadership left a lasting impression on me. As a prospect, Damone is a shifty guard and skilled finisher. I didn’t see him shoot a ton of perimeter jumpers in the games I saw him in but he checked all the other boxes.
Jack Reddick Jack Reddick 6'4" | PG Lyon County | 2024 State KY , Lyon County – Perry will get all the headlines but Reddick did a lot of good things for Lyon County and kept the Lyons from falling apart while Perry was getting his ankle taped up. Jack wasn’t super flashy but he’s very solid and showed he can make shots from multiple areas of the court.
Julius Edmonds Julius Edmonds 6'6" | SF Trinity | 2025 State #253 Nation KY , Western – One of the best 2025s in the state, “JuJu” looks like he’s moving his game out more towards the wing. He played on the wing and shot multiple threes over the games I saw. He’s about 6’5 and still growing and Edmonds could be a big time recruit down the line as he continues growing his game and growing and bulking up as he ages.
Jasper Johnson Jasper Johnson 6'5" | PG Woodford County | 2025 #15 Nation MO , Woodford County – No one in 2025 did more to boost their stock than Johnson this past weekend. The lefty showed scoring ability from all over and deep range on his jumper. His decision making and shot selection need to improve but he has a high ceiling as a prospect and caught the eye of multiple D1 coaches.
Malachi Moreno Malachi Moreno 6'11" | C Great Crossing | 2025 State #21 Nation KY , Great Crossing – A D1 assistant coach text me Saturday and asked me how he can buy all the Malachi Moreno Malachi Moreno 6'11" | C Great Crossing | 2025 State #21 Nation KY stock he can get. Yes he’s only 14 but he’s 6’10 and will get more athletic as he stops growing and starts to build on to his frame. Moreno can score the ball around the bucket and has good form on his free throws which makes me think he’ll be able to show some stretch and knock down perimeter jumpers as he grows.
Jayden Johnson, Male – The only 2026 I saw that made a big impression (and there weren’t many there), Jayden is big and shoots the cover off the ball at about 6’4. He’s still not a great athlete as he’s still growing and his athleticism hasn’t caught up with his body yet. Johnson is very skilled and keeps showing that he can compete at a high level. He’d start varsity at 95% of high schools in Kentucky this year.
