Continue ReadingI spent my day Friday in Shelbyville at the Titans/Rockets Shootout where D1 coaches were allowed out for the first time since July of 2019. That’s the only day I was able to watch games in person but I was able to do some watching via live stream the rest of the weekend. These are only top performers I was actually able to see either in person or on streaming. This is not a list of top overall performers for the event.
Reed Sheppard Reed Sheppard 6'3" | PG North Laurel | 2023 State #22 Nation KY , North Laurel – I was able to see Reed live twice on Friday. Against Lyon County, he was effective but not great. In the second game, he was electric and looked the part of the highly ranked national recruit that he is. Reed also had the dunk of the weekend against Western Saturday.
Kaleb Glenn Kaleb Glenn 6'7" | SF La Lumiere | 2023 #64 Nation IN , Male – I was only able to see Kaleb play live on Friday but I was impressed that he has worked to improve the weaker parts of his game as he showed an improved jumper and tightened ball handling. Glenn has always been a physical freak but now he’s rounding out his game and looking like a future pro, potentially.
Cyr Malonga Cyr Malonga 6'10" | C Evangel Christian | 2023 State KY , Evangel Christian – Malonga has improved a ton since the last time I saw him. He’s a lot more fluid athletically and dunks everything he can get his hands on. He still hasn’t shown much ball handling or range on his jumper but he still has time to develop those skills. He’s a good rim protector and more high major offers are likely to come soon.
Dallas Roberts Dallas Roberts 6'1" | PG North Oldham | 2023 State KY , North Oldham – Dallas is a smooth scorer who can score efficiently and in a hurry. North Oldham was undermanned due to injuries but Roberts did all he could to keep the Mustangs competitive. Bellarmine was in attendance for all of his games this past weekend and EKU head coach AW Hamilton watched him score 30+ on Saturday.
Jerone Morton Jerone Morton 6'3" | SG George Rogers Clark | 2023 State KY , George Rogers Clark – Speaking of AW Hamilton, EKU offered Jerone after another strong weekend with GRC. The lefty recently reclassed to 2023 but he could eventually end up a 2022 again if these college offers keep coming in. Morton needs to become a more consistent 3 point shooter but he can get to the rim consistently and finishes well with both hands.
Jack Edelen Jack Edelen 5'9" | PG Male | 2023 State KY , Male – Edelen didn’t necessarily wow me in the one half of a Male game I saw on Friday night but it was good to see him back on the court after missing his Sophomore season with an injury. Jack is an excellent shooter and got several open looks thanks to the depth of the Bulldog roster allowing him to not be doubled or trapped on offense. Look for him to be one of the best point guards in Louisville next season.
Tim Fuller II, Shelby County – Tim has really improved in the last year or so and become more athletic in the process. Fuller has a quick release and is a good shooter from deep but needs to continue improving his off the bounce game. Tim is a big wing who is a capable defender and a good offensive player. He should have multiple chances to impress coaches over the next year plus.
Trent Hinkle Trent Hinkle 5'11" | PG Western | 2023 State KY , Western – The entire Western backcourt played well over the course of the weekend but Hinkle caught my eye thanks to his high level shot making and court presence. Trent isn’t the biggest guard but he’s definitely a “foxhole guy” that you want on your side. A good leader and shot maker who is an above average defender, Trent is in the mix to be the top point guard in the 6th region next season.
