Continue ReadingI spent my day Friday in Shelbyville at the Titans/Rockets Shootout where D1 coaches were allowed out for the first time since July of 2019. That’s the only day I was able to watch games in person but I was able to do some watching via live stream the rest of the weekend. These are only top performers I was actually able to see either in person or on streaming. This is not a list of top overall performers for the event.
Clay Sizemore Clay Sizemore 5'9" | SG North Laurel | 2022 State KY , North Laurel – I watched North Laurel for a game and a half on Friday and Clay was his typical self, shooting from deep and hitting more often than not. Sizemore is a tough shooting guard who actually ended up playing some physical defense down the stretch against Lyon County when they put a chaser on Travis Pery to keep him from getting many touches late. Clay is a lot like his brother who is a walk on at South Alabama and both are likely to be coaches in the not too distant future.
Darien Lewis Darien Lewis 6'1" | PG Fern Creek | 2022 State KY , Fern Creek – Lewis had a monster weekend, scoring 40+ twice over the course of 6 games. The Fern Creek point guard showed the ability to score all over the court but also his fingerprints are all over the Tiger team as they can’t do much without him making plays. This particular Fern Creek team is very young and much smaller than we’re used to seeing. Lewis helped propel them to a strong weekend.
Dez Lindsay Dez Lindsay 6'6" | PF Male | 2022 State KY , Male – Recently reclassed to 2022, Lindsay showed all aspects of his game even when he didn’t shoot the ball great from deep. Dez is 6’7, long and athletic and had several college coaches asking who he was, what his recruiting is like, etc. Lindsay should be a big part of the 2021-22 success for the Bulldogs and was one of the top performers for the weekend overall. Male would not have won the event if not for Dez’s impact.
Cade Stinnett Cade Stinnett 6'3" | SG Greenwood | 2022 State KY , Greenwood – Stinnett had a big weekend for the Gators and helped get them to a very successful weekend where they went 5-1. Stinnett is such a blue collar player that he doesn’t get a lot of individual shine that he probably should. Cade is a high level scorer who has a good skill level and knows how to defend multiple positions. He holds an offer from Campbellsville and would be a great addition to any in-state program.
Turrell Cleaves Turrell Cleaves 6'4" | SG Jeffersontown | 2022 State KY , Jeffersontown – Cleaves has been one of those prospects that I always want to see more from and on Friday morning he played a good overall game in a loss to Lexington Catholic. Always at his best in the open court, Turrell showed he can be more of a playmaker in the half court than he’s shown before. He’s got good positional size and will be a college player. The level he reaches is still TBD but his potential is still high as it’s ever been.
