It brought a variety of teams from Western PA and Ohio to the awesome new hardwood court. The coaching staff at Geneva had three courts being utilized with rotations of teams throughout the day. We will take a glance at some of the top performers at the event from WPIAL programs.
Quaker Valley Quakers
Markus Frank Markus Frank 6'5" | PF Quaker Valley | 2022 State PA , junior
6’5, power forward – A terror on the glass who has the tenacity and work ethic to make not only his game better, but to help improve everyone around him during a contest. This young man puts up points in bunches from the post and on penetration from the wing position. Markus will definitely be a college basketball player as his senior year approaches.
Jack Gardinier Jack Gardinier 6'0" | PG Quaker Valley | 2022 State PA , junior
6’0, point guard – The quickness on both ends of the floor and his high motor separate this player from many other backcourts. With the ability to handle the ball and set up the offense, his skills continue to develop leadership qualities for this hooper. Jack has knowledge of the game and earned the respect of his teammates during high school.
Ian Herring, sophomore
6’3, wing forward – An athletic wing forward that has the length to use his body well for quality defensive stops. This young man improved his perimeter game during the spring which will make him even more difficult to guard on offense. Ian has a high IQ and is becoming more of a vocal leader with experience.
Jackson Kerley, sophomore
6’1, small forward – He has developed his game during this spring and summer which could catapult him to a bigger role this high school season. The trust of his team is rising in critical situations with his improved basketball performance. Jackson makes free throws on a consistent basis.
South Fayette Lions
Logan Yater, junior
5’9, shooting guard – An exceptional quick guard that likes to get the ball up the floor in transition for his teammates. His hustle on the defensive end of the court creates opportunities for the offense from steals and deflections. Logan has a very good mid-range jumper to balance out his penetration to the hoop.
Hriday Chauhan Hriday Chauhan 6'10" | C South Fayette | 2023 State PA , sophomore
6’7, center – This tall, lanky big man has improved his game dramatically over last year with a strong work ethic. He portrays a solid mid-range jump shot while using his fundamentals in the post to finish baskets. Hriday will continue to develop his arsenal on offense and look for him to cause more problems of defense for his opponents.
Urban Impact Foundation
Khalil Kerr Khalil Kerr 6'0" | PG Carlynton | 2022 State PA , junior
6’0, combo guard – He has the strength and physicality to welcome contact in the paint on offense while playing tough man-to-man defense. This young man likes to lead his team on both ends of the court. Khalil is a confident player who does not back away from a challenge during a game.
Damon Astorino Damon Astorino 6'2" | CG Eden Christian Academy | 2023 State PA , sophomore
6’2, combo guard – An all-around player that can play a variety of positions on the floor, while helping his team in any way possible during a contest. He likes to penetrate the lane and draw contact for strong finishes at the basket. Damon’s knowledge of the game makes him similar to a coach on the floor.
Xzavier Rodgers Xzavier Rodgers 6'1" | CG Obama Academy | 2023 State PA , sophomore
6’2, combo guard – His ability to perform at a high level on the defensive end of the court actually sets him up for quality offensive production. He likes to play physically and communicates extremely well with his team. Xzavier looks to score either from the perimeter or with drives to the basket.
Seton LaSalle Rebels
Connor Spratt Connor Spratt 6'3" | PG Seton LaSalle | 2023 State PA , sophomore
6’1, point guard – A point guard that looks to create opportunities not just for himself during the course of the game, but for his teammates as well. If left open on the perimeter he will knock down the jumper with consistency. Connor likes to push the ball in transition off the defensive rebounds of his big guys.
Laurel Spartans
Eli Sickafuse, junior
6’3, power forward – This tall, tough inside post player brings a dedication to the defensive side of the court and always looks to do the dirty work for his team. The little things such as; setting screens, taking charges, blocking shots, crashing the boards, and kick out passes make him reliable for his team. Eli will be a force this summer and next winter.
Carmichaels Mighty Mikes
Chance Lemley, freshman
6’3, center – Despite his young age, this big man has very good footwork on the block. He works very hard on the glass and protects the rim on the defensive end of the floor with his shot-blocking ability. Chance will be a player to reckon with as his scholastic basketball career progress over the next few years.
