Here are a few Wichita guards who might be in line for bigger roles next fall (in alphabetical order):
Devontae Allen, 5-foot-9, 2023, Wichita Magic, Wichita West HS:
Allen is a quick guard who blows by defenders with his first step and crossover. He is active at the defensive end, picking up guards with his on-ball aggressiveness.
Jayce Glasper, 6-foot-2, 2024, Wichita Magic, Wichita Trinity HS:
Glasper has had some experience already on the varsity football field and basketball court. He’s playing up this summer and showing his talents with the Magic. He’s an intense competitor who can drive and create his own shot. But he’s a team player and does some of everything.
Rayvelle Leak, 5-foot-8, 2024, Wichita Magic, Wichita East HS:
Leak is making his biggest impact at the defensive end for the Magic. He’s an attacking on-ball defender who makes steals and interceptions at a high rate. Leak is a quick and explosive athlete who can shoot from the perimeter or drive the lane.
Brooks Powers, 6-foot, 2024, Wichita Padres – Kiem, Kapaun Mt. Carmel HS:
Powers is a solid ball handler who weaves his way through traffic to make plays in transition. He gets to the goal with his quickness and physical, attacking drives. He is a quarterbacking guard, moving the ball and making good feeds in to posts or passing the ball up the floor in transition.
Zack Steven, 6-foot, 2023, Wichita Padres – Kiem, Carroll HS:
The Golden Eagles graduate their top six players, including a slew of guards. Steven is a good ball handler who plays with grit and toughness. His good size allows him to move between point and off-guard. He works hard at both ends and is willing to move the ball to open shooters.
