Last week, Prep Hoops featured Wichita guards, wings and posts who can be considered summer risers.
Here are a few guards from the area around Wichita who might be in line for bigger roles next fall (in alphabetical order):
Levi Harden, 6-foot-3 guard, 2023, Wichita Padres-Mocaby, Maize South:
Harden is ready for an opportunity at Maize South. He’s showing off his ability from deep, knocking down a lot of threes for the Padres this summer. He’s got good size and the athleticism to do a lot more than just shoot. He penetrates with power and quickness, and can score in traffic or kick to an open shooter. At the defensive end, he swats shots of driving guards and hounds ball handlers and picks off passes.
Logan Libel, 5-foot-10 guard, 2023, Wichita Padres-Mocaby, Eisenhower:
The 5-foot-10 guard shoots it effectively, but does a lot of things with the ball to get others involved. He’s quick and deceptive on the dribble, and finds open shooters when he penetrates. After seeing a little bit of varsity action last year, Libel is ready for his role to expand.
Jaden Roth, 6-foot-1guard, 2023, Wichita Padres-Mocaby, Eisenhower:
A solid ball handler who can penetrate and get his own shot, Roth could be in line for a role on the varsity at Eisenhower. He knocks down midrange jumpers, whether driving to get the shot, or catching and releasing off cuts and curls. Roth is also effective from deep.
Brady Strausz Brady Strausz 6'3" | CG Andover | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-2 guard, 2023, TBB KS, Andover:
Strausz isn’t really an unknown. He played a pretty key supporting role for a really good Andover team. But the Trojans were so loaded, he didn’t show all he could. He’s a really good passer, as evidenced by his 2.3 assists a game in limited time. For TBB, he shows good skill leading an offense, handling the ball and playing tough defense. He is a strong driver with the ball and has enviable physical tools.
Ethan Turner, 6-foot-1 guard, 2023, Wichita Padres-Mocaby, Maize South:
Turner is really showing the ability to affect a game at the defensive end. He anticipates passes and gets his hands on a lot of balls in the air. He rips off dribblers and digs down on bigs. He’s a solid ball handler who can penetrate and make plays, and he also has a solid shot from mid-range or deep.
