Summer Risers – Kansas City-area 2023 Guards

<p>Summer offers young players without a lot of varsity experience to start getting ready for greater opportunities.</p> <p>Here are a few guards from the area around the KC area who might be in line for bigger roles next fall (in alphabetical order):</p> <p><strong>Aaron Carter</strong>, 6-foot-2 guard, 2023, United Basketball, Shawnee Mission West:</p> <p>Carter is a physical guard who can score. He shows the ability to penetrate and finish in the lane, knocking down floaters or getting all the way to the goal. He is a good ball handler, deceptive with the ball and aggressive with the ball in the open court. He plays the game fast and physical.</p> <p><strong>Blake Hicks</strong>, 5-foot-9 guard, 2023, GABL Future, Desoto:</p> <p>One of a host of guards who push the tempo for GABL Future, Hicks is fast and aggressive. He is a good ball handler who can quickly sprint through traffic to blow up defenses before they can get back. He scores on runouts and is fearless attacking the goal. He moves the ball on offense and really attacks passing lanes and opposing ball handlers.</p> <p><strong>Trent Johnson</strong>, 5-foot-10 guard, 2023, GABL Future, Desoto:</p> <p>Johnson is an impressive, versatile guard. He knocks down 3-pointers when open, but is much more than a spot-up shooter. He pushes the ball, as do all the GABL Future guards. He can drive with physicality, scoring or kicking the ball out. Great at breaking pressure, Johnson is really solid with the ball and makes smart passes.</p> <p><strong>Trevonte Miller</strong>, 5-foot-9 guard, 2023, 816, Leavenworth:</p> <p>Miller is a quick and smooth ball handler who loves to attack the goal. He has a good handle and uses start-and-stop moves and crossover dribbles to beat the on-ball defender. At the offensive end, he can also knock down the three. He’s got quick hands and feet, and he gets after it at the defensive end too.</p>
