Here are Kansas’ top five small school senior guards (1A-3A, in order of rank):
27 Cason Richardson Cason Richardson 6'2" | CG Hesston | 2022 State KS , 6-foot-1 combo guard, Hesston:
Richardson takes the honor of top-ranked small school baller in the 2022 class. Richardson led the Swathers to the 3A title, scoring 16 points in the final. He put together a semifinal game for the ages, torching TMP for 36. Richardson is an athletic and versatile guard. He averaged 16 points and grabbed 7 boards a game. He gets his teammates involved, dishing 4 assists. Richardson’s efficiency is impressive: 57% from the field, 34% from deep, and 75% from the line.
39 Brett Sarwinski Brett Sarwinski 5'10" | PG Galena | 2022 State KS , 5-foot-10 point guard, Galena:
Joining Richardson on the first-team 3A list, Sarwinski ran into Richardson and Hesston in the state final. Though they went down in defeat, Sarwinski put up a game-high 19, more than half his team’s points. The dynamic guard averaged 17.8 points per game, scoring on the run, in the pain and from deep. He’s tough on the defensive end, and rebounds well for his size.
46 Cooper Autry Cooper Autry 6'3" | SG Holcomb | 2022 State KS , 6-foot-5 shooting guard, Holcomb (pictured):
Autry is a long shooting guard who crosses the state to put his game on the line against top club competition. He works with the SSA Hoops Elite, where he’s a top shooter and double-double producer. He earned honorable mention 3A last year, turning in great rebounding and supporting production. He averaged 9.6 boards as a junior.
62 Jimmy Dorsey Jimmy Dorsey 6'6" | SG Wellsville | 2022 State KS , 6-foot-5 shooting guard, Wellsville:
Listed as a shooting guard, Dorsey dos it all for Wellsville. He grew into one of the top scorers in the state last year, averaging 19.6 per game. He’s a long athlete who can really shoot it from deep. Dorsey earned third-team 3A last year.
67 Brayden Meseke Brayden Meseke 6'0" | CG Wabaunsee | 2022 State KS , 6-foot combo guard, Wabaunsee:
A second-team 2A pick, Meseke was a steadying influence for the Chargers when their season was falling apart. COVID and injuries put the team at 1-10 to start the season. But then the team took off, in large part due to the leadership and tenacity of the 6-foot junior guard. Meseke showed his stuff on the biggest stage, when he turned in 22 points in the championship loss to Hillsboro. Meseke’s never-say die attitude at both ends inspired his team to the final buzzer.
