There was 18 varsity teams, 6 JV. Here’s our list of standouts players for the 2 day event. Our focus in this write up is on the Class of 2023
John Squire John Squire 6'7" | C St. Ignatius | 2023 State CA-N 6’7 F/C of Saint Ignatius HS. 2023
Squire has expanded his game. He was active on both ends of the court, showing a good inside/out game that is steadily improving. With his post work he’s becoming a more consistent scorer inside, using turn around jumpers, jump hooks, as well as put backs with his rebounding efforts. He has a good stroke when he steps out at the top for an occasional 3. He’ll run the court and rebound
Jake Davis Jake Davis 6'9" | C Acalanes | 2023 State CA-N 6’9 F/C of Acalanes HS. 2023
An active big with an improving skill set to take his game to the next level. He’s a quality big with a good game at this stage of his development. His energy on the court stands out on both ends. He’s a big target wanting the ball as he moves across the post area. He’s a good screener, and passer from the high or low post. His presence on defense presents a problem for opposing teams. He does a good job at disrupting the pick and roll. He’s usually in good position to block or change a shot. He can score inside, step out for a 3 on occasion and he’ll rebound.
Courtney Anderson Courtney Anderson 6'4" | SG Dublin | 2023 State #151 Nation CA-N Jr. Guard 6’4 of Dublin HS 2023
Anderson Jr, seems to be expanding his game, as he takes on a bigger role with his team. He’s long, getting stronger, and looks to be still adding height to his frame. He’s one of the primary ball handlers on this team as he looks to assert himself with the dribble on the offensive end. He’s going to the basket more often using his length, and sneaky hops to convert over taller players. He has good rythm on his jump shot. He’s helping on the boards, and pushing in transition making good decisions.
Joey Kennedy 6’5 G/W/F of University HS 2023
Kennedy shows a good all around game, and has a good skill set to maximize his production on the court. He gives his best effort when he’s on the court. He can score in a variety of ways. He’s comfortable putting up jumpers on the perimeter, or using drives off the dribble to get into the key. He works well in the post area. He’ll battle for rebounds, and defend bigger players in the post. He’s comfortable handling the ball in open court.
Donovan Cooks Donovan Cooks 6'1" | PG Dublin | 2023 State CA-N 6’0 CG of Dublin HS 2023
Cooks is ready to step into a bigger role with his team. The 2023 guard is effective playing either guard spot. He has a good understanding of the game and transitions well, knowing when to be the facilitator or asserting himself as the off guard. He plays under control, has vision and passing, as well a good mid-range game. He’s a tough on ball defender who doesn’t shy away from guarding a scorer. He gives his best effort.
