The now 6-foot-2, 165-pound point guard has continued to grow both physically and with his game and it’s really showing so far this spring 2021 season. Pippa-White is averaging 25 points per game and has really stepped up as the main threat for Gresham thus far.
“I really feel like our team has come a long way,” Pippa-White said. “We have young guys on our team and only three seniors and I like our team – we’ll all be back next year. For me as one of the leaders of the team, I’ve had to get 25 or 30 points and ten assists for us to win. It’s a big role and you’ve got to show up every night.”
Pippa-White is coming off an off-season where he consistently worked out with trainer Brian McGill on a daily basis and also spent a lot of time shooting with his father, former collegiate player Cliff White. The work he put in on his body is visible as he is now able to power past defenders and score around the rim, while his outside jumper remains pure from beyond the arc.
“I’ve put on like ten pounds it feels good to be bigger and dunking now,” Pippa-White said. “I worked on my dribble shot and step-back and also getting to the hole and finishing up higher.”
Pippa-White also played in a few tournaments with A-Train Oregon Magic and it was an experience he really enjoyed. “Playing for (coach) Devin (Price) – he’s the type of coach that lets you play and doesn’t hold you back,” Pippa-White said. “He wants defense though and that’s the fun thing about it – I don’t like a team that can’t play defense. Playing with them it was physical out there and you had to play hard to win.”
One of the landmark events this off-season for Pippa-White was getting his first scholarship offer, from Jackson State. He’s also heard from Pepperdine, Brown, Eastern Washington, and Washington and since it’s early, he is just enjoying the process so far.
“Honestly just picking up an offer was unbelievable,” Pippa-White said. “It’s been a lot of fun to talk to coaches. Every coach has something different to say but the main thing is they talk about practice. What does he do in practice – it’s not just about scoring but how does he play defense and how does he do in practice, does he work hard, is he a leader.”
Pippa-White is hopeful that coaches will continue to be in contact over the next few months as he plans to suit up with A-Train Oregon Magic when AAU ball resumes in July. He currently ranks as the #5 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2023 rankings.
