I would like to expand on my previous stories with players performing well around the region. Furthermore, these are kids that might be a bit under the radar across the social media stratosphere. Hence, prospects to “bank on”.
Greg Spate Greg Spate 6'6" | PG West Oaks | 2023 State FL – Coral Springs
2023 Greg Spate Greg Spate 6'6" | PG West Oaks | 2023 State FL is a prospect I first wrote about when he was with Northeast. The 6-foot-6 Spate has since become a staple with the Colts. Now, he is taking his game onto the summer circuit with a vengeance. With Coral Springs, Spate averaged 14 points and over six rebounds per game as a combo guard. Last week, Spate averaged 21 points per game at the Keiser team camp. Overall, he has averaged 23 points per game across two venues. You are not going to find many kids with his length and athleticism coming out of the backcourt. Spate has also added ten pounds of muscle his frame. Therefore, he can matchup against physical forwards or use his quickness to go man-to-man against guards. Those are all traits you are looking for at the college level. I would add his overall playmaking ability and leadership has grown at Coral Springs. He was recently offered by Samford. Furthermore, Spate has received calls from FIU, St. John’s, Dayton, South Dakota State, Toledo and FAMU.
Matthew Newland – Archbishop McCarthy
2022 Matthew Newland fits this article perfectly. He is a prospect I believe many people are sleeping on. He is extremely long and can be a nightmare matchup at both ends of the court. I would refer to him in the bank as “buy low”. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 11.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 2.1 steals for the Mavericks last season. In addition, Newland recorded four double-doubles and shot 43 percent from the floor. He might be one of the area’s most overlooked frontcourt prospects.
Adrian Cruz Adrian Cruz 6'3" | PG Sagemont | 2022 State FL – Miami Southwest
2022 Adrian Cruz Adrian Cruz 6'3" | PG Sagemont | 2022 State FL should be the main man this fall with the Eagles graduating three prominent seniors. The 6-foot-2,175-pound point guard averaged 16.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.7 steals per game while shooting 54 percent from the floor last season. Cruz is a physical floor general that brings toughness onto the court. Against Miami Palmetto, Cruz posted a triple-double with 24 points, 12 rebounds and ten assists. On defense, he recorded 49 steals. He is an underrated prospect in Miami-Dade County.
Derrick Edouard Derrick Edouard 6'3" | SF North Miami | 2023 State FL – North Miami
2023 Derrick Edouard Derrick Edouard 6'3" | SF North Miami | 2023 State FL is one of my favorite prospects in the region. I have watched him a number of times and really like his athleticism and length. The 6-foot-2 shooting guard averaged 11.1 points per game and went 42-of-120 (35 percent) from deep. I think he can use his reach to shoot over defenders and knock down shots from anywhere on the court. Against Doral Academy (14-8), he scored 13 points and went 3-of-5 from downtown. I think its reasonable to expect Edouard to average between 15 and 20 points per game next season. After all, North Miami loses three seniors that averaged over nine points a game.
Isaac Mothersill – Avante Garde Academy
Isaac Mothersill is a long term investment that has cashed in thus far for the Sharks. The 5-foot-10 point guard averaged 14.1 points, 4.3 assists, 3.5 steals and 3.3 rebounds per game as an eight grader. Against iMater Charter (13-6), he scored 18 points and knocked down three 3-pointers. In addition, he scored 15 or more points in six other contests. Mothersill should only continue to grow and become more of a factor as a freshman.
