In fact, the truth of the matter is Zeke Viuhkola Zeke Viuhkola 6'1" | CG West Linn | 2022 State OR has been getting it done all season long. The tough 6-foot-2, 180-pound combo guard has put together some big-time games this year and on Wednesday night, he often carried the Lions as they stayed undefeated by getting past Tualatin on the road.
“I put in a lot of work this off-season so I could be ready to come into this role and be the number two focus on our team,” Viuhkola said. “Especially on nights when Jackson (Shelstad) is not getting enough then I can step up and help us out.”
Viuhkola definitely did the job against the Timberwolves, notching a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds. The junior hit some perimeter shots but really got things done attacking the hoop, using his strength to finish over defenders down low.
“I’ve always been more of a shooter but I’ve been working on getting to the basket more,” Viuhkola said. “That’s where I’ve been finding a lot of my success recently.”
On the year, Viuhkola is averaging just over 17.5 points per game. He’s hoping that college coaches have been watching his progress. While he also plays on the gridiron, it’s on the hardwood that he’s looking forward to competing at the next level.
“I love football but basketball has always been my passion,” Viuhkola said. “Obviously my goal is to play Division I or the highest level that I can, but I just want to find the best fit where I can go in and grow my game and get better.”
Viuhkola will get a chance to impress college coaches in July as he’ll be suiting up with the Oregon Prospects in tournaments in Southern California, Beaverton, and Las Vegas. But before he does that, there are still games left with the Lions as they finish out this regular season.
“We’ve got two games left coming up back-to-back and we’re looking to finish our season strong,” Viuhkola said. “We want to give our seniors the best sending off that we can. We want to improve as much as we can and get ready for next year too.”
Viuhkola currently ranks as the #25 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
