Continue ReadingThe Philly High School Live sessions have become one of the most anticipated events of the annual June recruiting period. Organized by John Mosco (Archbishop Wood Head Coach) and Andre Noble (Imhotep Charter Head Coach), Philly HS Live (Session II) once again featured a field that is absolutely loaded with talented prospects.
Yesterday we posted Part I of our review focused on southeastern Pennsylvania prospects who performed well at the Philly HS Live (Session II) event. Today, we present Part II of our review.
Jacob Beccles Jacob Beccles 6'3" | CG Constitution | 2022 State PA – 6’3” / Senior / Constitution / Combo Guard: It was a huge weekend for Beccles, (2020-21 PIAA 2A 2nd Team All-State selection) as he proved he can score the ball in bunches. Beccles was a blur in transition and finished through traffic. In the half-court, his jump shot was very effective from the mid-range to behind the arc and he impressed with his ability to stop on a dime and knock down a jumper. Highlights from his weekend at Philly HS Live (Session II) included 29 points vs. Parkland (PA) as well as 23 points vs. Bensalem (PA).
Demetrius Lilley Demetrius Lilley 6'8" | PF Lower Merion | 2022 State PA – 6’9” / Senior / Lower Merion / Power Forward: This biggest thing we took away from Lilley’s play this weekend is that he appears much slimmer and more muscular then when we last saw him play in March during the PIAA state tournament. Still, even the leaner version of Lilley dominates the interior like no one else in suburban Philadelphia. His footwork and positioning are excellent and his bag of low post moves continues to expand. At Philly HS Live (Session II) he once again showed that his 3-point shot is becoming a more consistent weapon. Lilley had an impressive 23 point performance vs Pocono Mountain West (PA).
Rylan Muniz – 5’10” / Sophomore / Executive Education Charter / Combo Guard: Muniz is a quick, change of speed guard with ball on a string handles, who did more than hold his own against Archbishop Carroll’s super elite group of backcourt players during a close loss. Muniz then poured in 28 points in a win over Central Bucks East. In that run, Muniz torched the nets from deep by hitting 7 threes. In addition to his perimeter shooting, Muniz showed the college coaches in attendance that he can get a team into their half-court sets and deliver the rock with precision.
Masud Stewart Masud Stewart 6'0" | PG Neumann-Goretti | 2022 State PA – 6’2” / Senior / Neumann Goretti / Combo Guard: Stewart really raised his stock this weekend by posting outstanding scoring performances against two of Philly HS Live’s (Session II) most hyped teams. Stewart notched 24 point and 5 rebs vs. Windermere Prep (FL) and then had a great game vs. Pennsylvania 6A powerhouse Archbishop Wood (22 points we believe). Stewart showcased an excellent jumper with deep 3-point range, speed to fill the lanes on the fast break and then score at the cup. Additionally, he was a force on the offensive glass.
Nix Varano – 6’2” / Senior / LaSalle CHS / Combo Guard: Varano is flat out one of the preeminent three point shooters in southeastern Pennsylvania. He unlimited range and quick trigger were on full display at Philly HS Live (Session II). Varano’s off ball movement is a thing of beauty and made him very tough to defend. However, Varano also proved he is not a one-dimensional player. Varano proved he is surprisingly good at handling the ball and found some success in LaSalle’s transition game as well. He scored 24 points in win over St. John’s (DMV) and recorded 11points and 5 rebounds against Hudson Catholic (NY);
Jake West Jake West 6'1" | PG William Penn Charter | 2025 State #193 Nation PA – 5’11” / Sophomore / Archbishop Carroll / Combo Guard: Simply put West is a playmaker with a high basketball IQ and phenomenal basketball instincts. Thus he stepped into the lineup with his new teammates at Carroll during Philly HS Live and did not miss a beat. West scored in numerous ways (3-balls; mid-range Js; floater game and in transition). Despite the ability to score at will, West did not hesitate to facilitate for teammates when the opportunity presented itself. We were especially impressed by his decision making as the ball handler in Carroll’s pick-n-roll game. Carroll’s Class of 2024 ( Moses Hipps Moses Hipps 6'4" | SG AZ Compass Prep | 2024 State AZ , Chase Coleman Chase Coleman 6'2" | PG Rocktop Academy | 2024 PA and West) is a filthy group of prospects.
